Madonna's new album, Confessions On a Dancefloor, has a song called "Isaac" about Rabbi Isaac Luria, the founder of Kaballah -- the retarded cult celebrities join when they don't want to be Scientologists. The song has pissed off Rabbi Rafael Cohen, seminary director and the custodian of Isaac's tomb:

"There is a prohibition in Jewish law against using the holy name of our master, the Sage Isaac, for profit. This is an inappropriate act, and one can feel only pity at the punishment that she will receive from Heaven. The Sage Isaac is holy and pure, and immodest people cannot sing about him."

We'll see what Scientology has to say about it when Beck comes out with "L.Ron".

As deep into Kaballah as she is, you'd think she'd have already known this. If the song meant so much to her, why didn't she just post it as a free download on her site? whatever

the kaballah is a "retarded cult", eh? well, nice to see some impartial reporting here. glad you're not letting your opinions get in the way of telling an objective story.

also, i should probably point out, the kaballah has been used for thousands of years, and was not just dreamt up to make money as scientology was. but i guess it's all just retarded to you, cos you don't subscribe to it, eh?

If you want objective reporting, you're in the wrong place, buddy.

I should point out that the following religions are also in the "retarded" category, in my opinion: Buddhism, hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism, Flying Spaghetti Monsterism, Paganism, Wicca, Goddess worship, Mormonism, Zen, Shinto, Taoism, etc, etc.

And you should read what Rick A. Ross, an expert on cults, has to say about the form of Kabbalah that Madonna and other celebrities practice.

Well, whatever, whoever you want to listen to, read up on the Kabbalah Centre -- the organization run by Philip Berg -- which is where Madonna studied Kabbalah, and compare it to whatever you call "real" Kabbalah.

HA! Remember when she recorded "Shanti/Ashtangi" for Ray of Light? Hindu religious leaders were horrified, and they said her accent was terrible.

That was exactly what I was thinking of. And then when she did "Like a Prayer" she got churches upset with her for the religious imagery in the video. (Of course, this may have something to do with the fact that the song was blatantly about blowjobs and the imagery in the video was sexual) She just seems to piss everyone off sooner or later.

The Kabbalah and the Zohar are books of mysticism that only really mean anything within the context of Judaism. They're not a separate religion and the ones who claim it is *are* only out to make money, what with those bracelets and "specially blessed Kabbalah water".

What these people are practising is not Judaism.

Yeah. They also use those tapes to blackmail you if you ever leave. Sometimes worse.

My friend's brother "disappeared" when he tried to leave.

Madonna is Madonna. She sings about what she wants to sing about. She's toned her act down quite a bit since her Like a Virgin and Material Girl days, but she obviously STILL knows what buttons to push. Madonna enjoys controversy. Controversy sells.

Personally, I think Rabbi Rafael Cohen is bitching because he can. Seems to be the world we live in today; people are just not happy unless they have something to bitch about. If you don't like the song or you don't like the singer, there's a simple solution; don't listen.

Except the Beck part--he's a Scientologist? No, Beck, no! I know you're weird, but be weird on your own--not with Tom Cruise!

Are you telling me that Rick A. Ross is really Stalin? Or is he Mao Zedong?

I'm confused...

That's funny. Have you ever lived in a Zen Monastery? Well, I have, so... just FYI.

By the way. Wikipedia:

Buddhism is a religion and philosophy based on the teachings of the Buddha, Siddhārtha Gautama, a prince of the Shakyas, whose lifetime is traditionally given as 566 to 486 BCE. Buddhism gradually spread from India throughout Asia to Central Asia, Sri Lanka, Tibet, Southeast Asia, as well as to East Asian countries such as China, Korea, and Japan.

Webster's Dictionary:

The religion represented by the many groups, especially numerous in Asia, that profess varying forms of this doctrine and that venerate Buddha.

So... take it up with the dictionary and the encyclopedia, is what I'm saying.

funny because traditional buddhism has no deity...The Buddha isn't worshipped as a God and in fact did not want people to follow him on his path after he defected from Hinduism...Buddhism is a philosophy on life and many of the teachings within it you can find in Western Philosophers such as Descartes, Spinoza, and Kant...So I really doubt that any such organization can be "retarded" even if you don't agree with it...
