If you're keeping track of such things, this is the first time Coldplay have ever received positive press from me, but I have to give them props for their latest release, Fix You, a four-song download EP whose proceeds will go to the Red Cross.
The collection gathers the title track, taken from its latest, X&Y (Capitol). It pulls "The World Turned Upside Down" from the vaults, where it's been stashed since the X&Y sessions, as well as a couple live tracks ("Pour Me" and "Fix You".
[The EP] will retail for $2.99 on iTunes, and all proceeds will go to hurricane relief funds established by the American Red Cross and the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS). Meanwhile, Apple is helping to collect donations from iTunes users, and others in the space like Napster, Audio Lunchbox and XM Satellite Radio have also chipped in.
No small potatoes from the best-selling band in the world right now.
Is there any chance of them and EMI donating all the cash they earned from bumper album sales during and after all the publicity surrounding LIVE 8 in July?
