I'm lost
December 2003

so i have about 2000 cd's in my collection, which i consider pretty extensive. Everyday i walk around campus with the same cd in my cd player on repeat and i just wonder what the possibilities would be if i had my entire collection at my mercy at any given point of the day. So the Ipod comes into question......is it worth the $300 bucks i'd have to shell out to get one?

if you all say i should get one, i will, but i want to know they are worth the huge price tag. thanks.

I just got one recently, I've been loading CD after CD onto it, and going round with the thing on "Shuffle", not knowing what song will be next.

I fucking love it, personally.

I love my ipod, but i refuse to use those white corded headphones. There are people wearing them on cmapus than there are people wearing polo shirts. No thanks.

Get it, just realize that it is going ot take a ridiculously long time to get all your CD's recorded on to your comp, converted to the right format, then loaded on to your iPod.....not to mention the hours afterwards trying to get them all properly organized and make playlists for all your moods.

But after all that, I think I could go at least a good week without sex. Yup, it made me that happy. No regrets buying mine, but yeah...get different headphones. The ones that come with it are kinda uncomfortable and look lame.

i had one and i hated it. it made my relationship to music more impersonal somehow. and it broke twice, because i dropped it.

eventually, i gave it to my brother.

i have a sony walkman mp3 player. it's much smaller (in size..) than the ipod, but is still 20GB. I love it.

I don't like ipods, but that's mostly because of Bono tongue

if you go for a regular ipod they're pretty chunky. i'd shop around and look at the alternatives. CREATIVE make something similar to the ipod that is cheaper, but apparently just as good. they're pretty massive too though.

I recommend checking out the sony option. I have had no trouble with mine. It rarely needs charging, it's compact and it has plenty of room on it

I bought a 512mb iPod Shuffle last year and got frustrated when I ran out of space. When I can, I am getting something with a lot of storage space. If you have the cash, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Ummm... When you put a cd in, it taps Gracenotes and names all the tracks (assuming it's not a mix cd, you little pirate). From there, you can use itunes to rip them to your computer. You don't have to convert them to shit. It takes me about 5-10 minutes for one cd. That's like NOTHING.

My 4gb ipod mini is for sale on ebay.

It's an ok piece of electronics, I just find that carting it between home/school/work/etc. I forget it far too often and leave it laying around. I'm lucky it hasn't been stolen.

Even so, at 5 minutes per cd, it would take him about a week of doing nothing but ripping cds.

I mostly use mine as harddrives. I never listen to them anymore. Ease of use has made music listening into something I can do anytime, anywhere, which waters down the experience for me.

i don't know... it seems expensive.... and besides if you're going to listen to something, shouldn't it be something that you can listen to for more than 3 minutes at a time? Just a thought.... biggrin

I love my ipod so much I could marry it and have children.
Especially at work. Get an iskin for it though if you don't want to fuck it up because you will.

i just love that apple kinda screwed their motto by being popular... "think different" my ass... people think mp3 player they think ipod.. that's normal..

which is certainly for good reason.. the control layout on the ipod is great.. non-removable battey can be a pain.. the battery life and price could be better..

itunes is okay.. it has a few bugs w/ windows (surprise!!) though..

my advice would be to check out the alternatives as tehy can often be cheaper.. a little clunkier (control-wise) but sometimes this is made up for with other sweet features like longer battery, lower price..

It depends.

For one, do you like electronic gadgets in the first place? Are you careful with them?

Do you like making personalized mixes for different moods, events, etc?

Do you dislike being bound to the album format?

If you answered yes to these questions, I'd consider it.

But it doesn't necessarily have to be an iPod. Certainly shop around, check out things like the iRiver or the Dell Jukebox.

I'd get an iPod, but it forces you to use that clunky bastard iTunes to put songs on it.

I want something I can just throw mp3s onto and go.

I got a 60GB a couple of months ago, I love it and I don't think I'm ever going to run out of space. I have a bunch of CDs, when I first got my ipod I spent some time putting some of my favorites on. Now, I just spend some time every now and then adding a few more. Once I'm done putting my CDs on my comp, I get to put them in the closet and not bother with them anymore.

A couple of days ago, I got a thing that lets me play it in my car and a small thing that charges it, while playing for my bedroom.
