Another artist has issued a musical response to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Mos Def, with his new charity single "Katrina Klap" -- which samples Lousiana-native Juvenile's "Nolia Clap". The song lashes out, predictably, at Bush and the government for their slow response to the tragedy. The song reflects views which are obviously held by -- not all, but many -- African Americans, that racial elements had a large part in many aspects of the disaster, from the preparations for the storm, to the media coverage, and the relief efforts. On the track:

He raps, "Mr President, about that cash/Policy for handling the niggas and trash/You better off on crack, dead or in jail, or with a gun in Iraq."

...and even implicates the illustrious knights of Live 8:

"It's enough to make you holler out/Like where the fuck is Sir Bono and his famous friends now?/Don't get it twisted, man, I dig U2/But if you ain't about the ghetto, than fuck you too/Who cares about rock and roll when babies can't eat food?"

You can hear the track here. Details of an official release have yet to be announced.

I heard this song on Friday, and I was thinking What the fuck did Bono do? If this is really his explanation,

The rapper also blasts rocker and humanitarian BONO, who he accuses of turning his back on the Hurricane Katrina tragedy after spending so much time and effort fighting poverty and erasing Third World debt.

Geez, Famine, and poverty is an everyday thing in some parts of the world, and those countries do not have the means to provide for their impoverished. America does have the means. Bono's not even an American. What the fuck does he have to do with anything?

I do think it is pretty evident that George Bush doesn't care about poor people, and he may or may not be racist.

Not to mention that U2 did play on that benefit concert the other day. What more does he want?

This track was out well in advance of the concert.

(yeah.. I'm numbering)

1. This isn't about Demo. or Republicans.... you throwing that out there is trendy. Sounds very O'Reilly-ish.... Oh, and I donated, volunteered at the local RC chapter, and still have clothes to donate. But you know what we aren't special, because there's thousands of people putting in more work than me and you. Just do your part.. don't hate, boast, or throw a guilt trip with the "what have you done for them today..."

2. A lot of people hated Bush before the disaster... and the "my responsibility" news conference was good PR. Bush and admin. has fucked up enough for ME to know how much they care.

3. I like how you capitalize MAYOR twice.... I guess caps don't work for the governor or the government. If you think empty yellow buses excuses the negligence in doing a simple food/water drop, then there's no talking to you. I mean, come the fuck on... all those days without a drop. At least drop some fucking snickers bars... gatorade... something.

4. I'm surprised you didn't google before you speak .....

Did you really think they would do nothing....? But hey, thanks for keepin' tabs on them.

* my only post regarding this post... I'm not going to go back and forth. People believe what they want to believe... not worth arguing.

I thought this thread was about Mos Def. He's a talented guy, and apparantly has some things he wants to say...

as it's been stated before in other threads, I don't think Bush is racist. I think he's elitist. He just hates (or rather is indifferent to) poor people.

as for Bono. I suppose he does good charity work. I've kinda stopped caring about him since after Zooropa.

Mos speaks for himself. We shouldn't validate his point by making it more important than it is. He's just a man. Whatever the problems are we need to fix them. We act on issues according to it's proximity to our heart, and though we all have one, not all of these issues are close to us. We should provide positive support to the issues that move us. No one has a monopoly on pain and need, so we should only do as much as we can. As people of colour we should chose to be students instead of victims. (i consider white a colour as well) A victim attempts to justify his or her bull shit and a good student seeks to transforms all stimuli into something worth while. Don't hate Mos. Check the skills, Ignore the politics.

I think there is poverty all over the world. After all this disaster relief there is still going to be poverty all over the world and definatly still poverty in America. I think if we all tried to kick poverty in the balls daily we could do something about it. How do we kick poverty in the balls? I don't know but once we find where poverty's balls are, and I'm thinking it has to do with social services I might be wrong, we can start kicking them balls daily. If poverty is on the floor all green and shit vomiting and saying not fair while a long line of people kick it in the balls I think crime will go down, drug abuse (remeber there can be consenual drug use) will go down, and we'll probably get a progressivly better goverment. So lets find poverty's balls and start kicking!

Hey, nice talking point. Ever work for Talon media? How do you think an ex governor president would have reacted if it was Texas?
