On my grandmother's fridge growing up was a magnet with the sage advice "never trust a skinny cook", which might explain why the entire family is overweight, but still, we ate well. So perhaps the last person I'd look to for my supper would be the emaciated, girl-pants wearing members of a modern rock band, but that's just the sort the Guardian are turning to for a new column on food by Franz Ferdinand singer Alex Kapranos:

Called Soundbites, it will follow the singer and band's food related adventures as they travel the world on their forthcoming global tour.

The first column will appear in tomorrow's G2 section of paper, and will see Kapranos write about his days working as a chef alongside Franz bassist Bob Hardy in a Glasgow restaurant - plus the time he ate mole in a Mexican convent.

Well, it sounds more interesting than the average band's "Taco Bell Adventures", anyway.

Justin Wilson, the Cajun/Creole cook of PBS fame (I ga-ron-tee!) once said anytime he visits a restaurant he asks to meet the chef. If he's a skinny guy Justin gets up and walks out.

I commented on a news thread some time back about how celebrities have no business getting on stage during a performance and mouthing off about politics.

Let that world view of mine now broaden to include celebrities wanting to share how they cook. If their invited to visit Emeril, fine. Otherwise, just play your instruments and we'll watch Food Network when we're hungry.

Okay, maybe I'd watch "Cooking with Fat Joe!"

I used to watch Justin Wilson's cooking show all the time when i was a kid. That guy rules.

And those Cajun-flavor Ruffles he used to be the pitchman for? Favorite. Potato. Chips. Ever. I've been bummed for almost two decades that you can't get them anymore...

I keep thinking that too. But then, that's generally pretty good advice, too.

Me three. I hate when they use titles like this. I keep looking and getting disappointed.

When I first read this headline I thought it said "Never trust a skinny cock". Boy, was I disappointed. frown
