Stylus Magazine presents an annotated list of the Top 50 Basslines of All-Time, beginning with #s 25 - 50. (The top 25 will be posted tomorrow.) It's an interesting, idiosyncratic list, including obvious contenders like "Love is the Drug" and "Money," but also including surprising ones like the bassline of "Six Pack" by Black Flag, which is, the reviewer says, "seemingly crafted to confuse allegiances." I'm not sure what it means, but it sounds about right.

My musician friends freaked out over bass work on a Ben Harper song I can't recall, wish I could. I didn't think it was anything special but they did.

I've always loved the bass line on the Led Zeppelin tune "The Lemon Song".

'Bernadette." Nice.

If more Motown doesn't find its way on that list, though, I'm gonna kill people tomorrow. That's a promise.

This article inspired me to dig out Can's "Soundtracks," and for that (if that alone) it must be praised.

I almost fell over when I saw Diamond D on the list. Truly a great bass line.
