Demos can really map out a bands progession musically. Most of the time the finished product is the finer of the two, but sometimes there's a great song that never was. Anyone know of any? The Weezer Kitchen Tape demo album, with it's furious drumming (compared to the album) is one of the best I know of. Maybe it's a new spin on an old, beloved song, but I think the songs (My Name is Jonas, Only In Dreams, among others) are all superior in many ways.

when i first heard the demo versions of what turned out to be the first Audioslave album, i loved it. But when i heard the final released product, i've never been so disappointed before.

The 6 minute demo tape that 213 did back in like...89 or 90..or 91. The album they released fucking sucked.

Me too...when they were supposed to be Civilian it sounded good. Now it just sounds too...produced or something.

The Mars Volta demo was heaps better than their album.

Eritarka was brilliant on there.

I liked Converges demos of the songs on When Forever Comes Crashing that came out on Unloved And Weeded Out better than the actual album

the demos to 311's Don't tread on me has better songs and better versions of the songs that made the album itself.

The Breeders' "Pod" demo tapes kick the produced album's butt.

I have a feeling that the new Fiona Apple CD is going to end up in this thread as well.
