My girlfriend (aka TheFuckOffGirl) has fallen in deep smit with The Arcade Fire's "Funeral" album.

She has demanded of me that I locate more music "like The Arcade Fire."

If any of you indie hepcats had to respond to this request, what might you respond with?

I await your expert advices.

I don't know, their sound is kind of hard to pin down.

I'd say The Decemberists, The Shins, Sufjan Stevens, and Wilco would be some good bands to start with.

I know. I've come up with a bunch of reference points myself, but thanks for yours. I'm looking to see what outside ears might suggest. smile

Check out Broken Social Scene. Not totally similar, but chances are good she'll like it.

We have a good selection of Siouxsie, Roxy and the Heads already (I just burned Remain In Light to iTunes 5 minutes ago) but what's the 3rd one in there?

That was gonna be mine, so I'll quote this to reiterate. I just listened to both those CDs back to back and was thinking about how they were quite similar.

Also, Sufjan Stevens sounds not horribly similar, but I think it appeals to the same crowd. Or at any rate, I can't fucking stop listening to Illinois, and I am that crowd.

She's been checking the "People who bought The Arcade Fire also purchased..." things online, and she said to me last night "Do you know Neutral Milk Hotel? I think we ought to get them."

It's been on my to-get list for an awfully long time so it shall be got. smile
