I'm listening to "Close To The Edge", by Yes. It's an album I had since I was a junior potsmoker in the Bronx in the late 70s. (born 1964 fuckers wink )

Yes - hot or not???? er, good or not? (I like it)

(On a one to 10 scale, 1 being crappy, 10 being topofthepops)

Yes? No.

Actually, I listen to Roundabout and I've Seen All Good People when I'm sure no one's watching.

Their first album would rule if it was instrumental.

Yes really isn't my bag, but if I was going to vote, I'd have to say "hot", or at least "in the ascendency". Prog rock in general seems to be on the rise, as evindenced by those Mars Volta guys. Yes is clearly better than Mars Volta (say what you will, but at least Yes managed to right at least a couple of really good songs like 'roundabout' and 'owner of a lonely heart'- while Mars Volta doesn't even seem to grasp the concept of a song), so I think the Yes greatest hits albums will soon be flying off the shelves.

I'd probably dig them had King Crimson and Genesis never existed.

Because I lack any semblance of taste, I'm going out on a limb and saying that 90125 is my favourite and only YES album. Most of it's purely for my childhood, but goddamn! That video for Owner of A Lonely heart? Whew. Changed my life.

You will never again speak of "Owner of a lonely heart" in my presence.

I do love Yes though.
I am also tired of being mocked for it.

I've been a fan for a long time. A few years ago I saw them at the Birmingham Symphony Hall. What a great show. These guys can still play. They opened with "Yours is No Disgrace," which has one of my favorite guitar parts of all time. I pretty much could have heard only that and been happy. While they seem to be living off repackaging the same songs in different ways these days, some of the old albums provide some great listening when the mood strikes.

Battleships confide in me and tell me where you are,
Shining, flying, purple wolfhound, show me where you are,
Lost in summer, born in winter, travel very far,
Lost in losing circumstances, that's just where you are.

Yes lyrics make my brain feel funny. Funny, but happy.

When people ask me how I found them, they always give me a weird look when I tell them that battleships confided in me and told me where they were.
