back when I had a recors label, I released an album by a band called Hammerdown Turpentine that did a pretty fun bluegrass version of 911 is a Joke. Somone (maybe from Veruca Salt) did a really nice acoustic version of Straight Outta Compton.
i duuno. some are better than others, gin &juice is a lil played out. but then again, les claypool is rarely paid attention to anymore unless it's semi-related to residents rumors -- who should really do a hip hop album.

I think I just hate folk music and I hate ironic covers so the combination of the two is totally nauseating.
would it be better or worse to think they weren't being ironic?
and not for nothing, Dolly Parton singing Stairway to Heaven - totally earnestly and super duper country, gets me off. so is there room for the inverse?

Hm. I don't think of Dolly Parton as particularly folksy. Nor ironic. So she's A-Okay.

I'm curious... when you're saying "folksy' who're you thinking of exactly? Could you name a couple of artists?

I actually can't name any artists, because I'm unfamiliar with folk. To me Dolly Parton is country. When I say folk I mean like hippy dippy jam band folk. Maybe I'm using the wrong word. Which is why I say "folksy" as in kind of folk-like rather than folk genre specifically.

Yeah, Nina Gordon. I just listened to that, it's great.
When I saw Aqueduct months back, they opened with a cover of "Damn It Feels Good To Be a Gangster" and that was awesome. The Mountain Goats tacked on a verse from "Ignition" onto a cover of "The Boys Are Back In Town" that is equally delightful.
Also, Travis Morrison's cover of "What's Your Fantasy?" grew on me after a few listens.
