carmina burana rules!

i would also highly recommend mozart, marriage of figaro, because it has an awesome storm piece.

i am a big big fan of watching piano concertos. it is just so surreal to me to just watch someone press keys and here this beautiful noise be produced.

Karl Orf rocks the Carmina Burana!!

Some of the Choral work is outstanding as well, really moves me. Soldiers Chorus, Pheasant's Chorus (Leoncavallo), the Sacred aria album by Bocelli is damned good in places also - the Ave Maria's are exquisite. But I'm just a pleb, so my tastes are fairly purile, but I like what I like.

Listening to the Proms 2011 (The World’s Greatest Classical Music Festival) on BBC Radio 3, some good, some great and some not so good but over all worth checking out.

I actually do a classical radio show...some suggestions, if you like the Carmina Burana :

Mozart's Requiem is the obvious choice.

Henryk Gorecki - Symphony No. 3, Op. 36 "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs"

Igor Stravinsky - Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring)

Josef Suk - Symphony in C minor, Op. 27 "Asrael"

Havergal Brian - Symphony No. 1 in D minor "Gothic"

Olivier Messiaen - Quatour pour la Fin du Temps (Quartet for the End of Time)

Edward Elgar - Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 35

Gyorgi Ligeti - Lux Aeterna

they should get you on the right track....

more to come, if anyone would like

yes, Beethoven,Vivaldi,Handel and Paganini mostly, usually any of the violin concertos and i have a liking for harpsichord and any of the darker sounding classical,

i also love a lot of more modern classical singers, like Andrea boccelli, Sarah brightman, or José Cura

+1. It such an unpopular genre, it's difficult to get deep into. Thanks.

You're quite welcome. Check out the Elgar Cello Concerto next. I think you'll find it has a similar sense of emotional power to it... particularly the recording with Jacqueline du Pre performing on cello. Read up a little bit on her story... heartbreaking.

Yes, I love Classical music in it's many forms. Modest Mussorgsky, Edvard Grieg, and Chopin have really grown on me a lot these past few years. Also I can get dangerously addicted to Tchaikovsky.

I always get weird looks when I go into the Classical music section of Barnes and Noble, or any music store for that matter. I guess they assume a Metalhead will dislike such music when the exact opposite is usually true.
