It was originally reported that the Rolling Stones' new album would be called Neo-Con, after the record's song of the same name. The album is now called A Bigger Bang, but the track, now revealed as "Sweet Neo-Con", remains. On it, lead singer Mick Jagger has a few nasty words for the Bush Administration:

...The most searing moment, on a song called "Sweet Neo Con," isn't personal but political. "You call yourself a Christian, I call you a hypocrite/You call yourself a patriot, well I think you're full of shit."

"It is direct," Jagger says with a laugh. "Keith said [he breaks into a dead-on Keith imitation], 'It's not really metaphorical.' I think he's a bit worried because he lives in the U.S." Jagger smiles. "But I don't."

Perhaps The Stones still have a bit of bite left in them, even if it is through false teeth.

Isn't it a little late to be jumping on this bandwagon? What did they decide to wait until at least half the country finally realized he was full of shit that it was safe to be "political"? Maybe they can put this out in time for "Rock Against Bush, Volume 37"

That makes me think of Starfucker which ended up being called Star Star. But I love the Stones forever, even though I haven't bought one of their albums in years. Whatever they do it's cool with me. Might as well be Keats or Shelley up there.

Keith plays in an open G and actually takes off the top string for many songs. That's how you know it's the stones.

Now, that would sell a lot of copies! Their kids would all have to go out and buy old Stones records to see what they missed...

What bandwagon? I don't know what's going on in Philly, but everywhere else in the country, speaking out against the war could still earn you a punch in the teeth. It takes balls, or in the Stones' case, really really old balls. And the Stones have never been political, if you knew that you'd give 'em a little credit for trying.

Their single from 1991, "High Wire," was explicitly about the first Gulf War. And, depending on how you define 'political' (either personal or world), they have several other that can be interpreted as such ("Street Fighting Man," "We Love You," "Undercover of the Night," "Sympathy for the Devil").

I stand corrected,

I looked it up and found this lyric in High Wire:

Our lives are threatened, our jobs at risk
Sometimes dictators need a slap on the wrist

Pro Gulf War I? Interesting.

Why does everyone assume that because somebody says the president is a shit bag that they are automatically refering to the war?

I can read those lines as a protest against his non-ocmpassionate stance on stem cell research and his further eroding of the average american's economy by signing shit like CAFTA into effect.

Yes the president is full of shit, and no, not every log is labeled "Iraq war."

well, first off, the Stones are British, so...

anyway, more power to 'em, especially if they can put out a GOOD record after playing together for 43 years. Shit, I hope I still rock when I'm sixty-something.

Can't wait for the media spin on this. The Judeo-Christian holy rollers will have a field day, seeking radio airplay bans and stickers that read "Warning! Contains racist* lyrics." (*Anti-American).

Anything that kicks Dubya in the nuts is okay with me.

I have no real problem with celebs/artists speaking out about political issues, but the majority of them only follow the left-wing rhetoric blindly without any real thought and when they try to string together a thought of their own about the current administration, most of them sound like they are speaking like a 3rd grade student because their arguments are lemming-like and pretty much what we already heard a million times.

Now I am no fan of W, but the least these celebs can do is hire a "current events" coach so they can sound intelligent.

Plus...where were these hypocrites when Clinton was going after that Cuban kid with machine-gun, totin; troops in a house? Most of these idiot celebs wouldn't say anything about the administration if a Demmie was in power.

Clinton didn't send almost 2 thousand American and "coalition" soldiers to their deaths in Iraq for the sake of oil. Fuck off.

rock music isn't supposed to be some intelligent thesis with points and counterpoints your just suppose to yell about some stuff that annoys you or something and throw in a couple swear words

woah!! hold up there a second... he sent 185 or so troops to their death for oil. the other 1815 died trying to put the blowd up shithole country back together. reasons for going in are moot now. reasons for staying are important. whaddya want? a complete pull out tomorrow? hell, that ought to secure bush's position as the worst foreign policy president ever... it'd probably lead to the death of a few bazillion iraqis in the chaos that would follow, as well.

blah blah. impeach bush, so cheney can be president... get out of iraq, so they can kill each other... whatever.

I just read that like 'Who cares if he date raped her and got her pregnant? He's willing to marry her and help raise the kid."
