the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. back when Maps was EVERYWHERE i thought they were annoying as hell and then i realized the singer was hot, the vocals were nice, and the music itself was very interesting. so i downloaded the cd and its one of the best albums i have. one of the only ones to be fantastic through and through.
ummmm....i used to love hip hop, then hated it for a few years (i was in high school and i was goth, it just wasn't feasible) but now i ADORE hip hop again, partly to the credit of my boyfriend who listens to it more than any other genre and has gotten me into a lot of really great underground acts. not to mention the fact that i had nowhere else to go musically when most of the rock community decided collective whining was the best move everyone could make.
Still not fond of the 'Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs...' but I can be in a room with them on without trying to hurt something.
I used to hate Coldplay - thought their music was very samey and drol, but now I've kind of 'got' whatever it is that people who like them get. Very good for chilling after a hard day's work, plus the video to 'Speed of Sound' is awesome.
Nightwish. I saw them at their UK debut gig in 2003 (at Bloodstock 03) and almost fell asleep, then Once came out and for some reason (proboally the Therion worshiper in me) I just got hooked on them. Oceanborn is till the best album tho'
Emilie Autumn
The Smashing Pumpkins (turned not only into love, but my first real band obsession)
Tori Amos (was kind of meh, but now I lovelovelove her)
