Adventureland. They managed to find pretty much all 12 of the really good 80's songs for the soundtrack, plus some Velvet Underground for good measure.

I have a few personal favorites.

1.) O Brother Where Art Thou: I'm a casual fan of Blue Grass anyway...but I love Alison Krauss and the songs just perfectly fit the movie. It's hard to NOT smile when you're listening to that soundtrack.

2.) Bringing Out The Dead: Whether it's the Clash's "Janie Jones", Van Morrisson's "TB Sheets" or The Cellos' "Rang Tan Ding Dong".....the soundtrack really gives you the feeling of the manic energy of New York City.....and driving an ambulance. As someone who drives an ambulance for a living...I can't help but hear TB Sheets in my head sometimes when driving to or from the ER at 3am....wishing I had a cup of coffee.

3.) Not to go back to back Scorcese....but Goodfellas. IF the music wasn't already perfect for the scenes....there's this fucking scene right here:

4.) Into The Wild. Eddie Vedder nails it. So much so...that this is my designated roadtrip album. Hitting the open road for a solo adventure...leaving the world behind while listening to this:

Some Kind of Wonderful (the 1987 John Hughes movie). The thing I like most about it is that except for the Jesus & Mary Chain (and the Flesh for Lulu one hit wonder the movie spawned), everything else on it sank like a stone commercially and today you wouldn't come across the songs except for being in the movie.

I'll go with Clint Mansell's and Mogwai's work together on the soundtrack to The Fountain, followed up by The Dark Knight because there were also two opposing composers for that film and when they put their work together it was great, and lastly I would have to say the soundtrack to Get Him To The Greek because even though most of the songs are campy in the vain of Spinal Tap, there is some real genius in the instrumentation that makes it stand out head and shoulders from the general rock'n'roll film's soundtrack. Not counting that of Rock'n'Roll High School.
