I'm lost
November 2003

APR 22, 2005 10:47 PM

When I was in 5th or 6th grade I heard don't let's start. I fucking loved that song. In 97 they did a free show on the hatch shell in Boston. I went with my favorite girlfriend so far. It was hot as hell that day, and a whole bunch of no name crap bands opened. TMBG just put out a new album so when they came on they were playing all their new stuff. After hours of heat combined with crappy music halfway into their set I was convinced they would'nt play any of their old songs so we left. The next day I read a review in the paper that said most of the day sucked until TMBG closed their set with all the past hits, and the encore was Don't Let's Start. I was seriously upset for a day or two.

I've had Ana Ng stuck in my head for nearly a week. And it's really not such a bad thing. biggrin

I saw them live back in Seattle. When they played Instanbul (Not Constantinople), people in the second tier were stomping so hard, I though the balcony would collapse on those of us below. Good times! biggrin

Any of you all with kids should go buy this DVD right now. It is pure genius and will save you from stupid kiddie videos.

And after you buy it, you should stop looking at nekkid girls on the internet and spend some more time with your kids. wink

I have to go listen to Space Suit now.

Yes! Every time I reached the end of Apollo 18, I ended up playing this track two or three times in a row...

I'm here in super slow response time.....

Spac Suit kills me....as an end to an album, it's brilliant. As a song in itself, it amazes me. Couldn't tell you why, but I think it taps into when I was 13-15......I can listen to that song hundreds of times in repeat, and it still gets me.

They are my all time favorite band...ever.
Honestly...they are the reason I survived High School.
Without their music, I probably would have killed myself.

Question:

I'm seeing my first TMBG show a week from tonight. What do they play nowadays? I admit that I'm one of those kinds of showgoers who would feel cheated if all the band did was play album cuts off of their new releases; do they play stuff like "Birdhouse" and "Ana Ng" still?

yep. when ive seen them theyve played most of their "classics" as well as newer stuff, a really diverse and not at all disappointing set list smile.

Even back then, "Yoru Racist Friend" struck me as a huge departure for them. Serious sugject matter, and what seem like an actual personal expereince for one of them. And the message is so well-spoken. And the guitar riff in the bridge is SWEET. A great song.

A lot of their songs are really serious. Your Racist Friend is really only a departure becuase it's so direct. A lot of their songs are actually really depressing if you ignore the instrumentation.

I was in a band called You Were Spiraling, we opened for the Giants on many a show back in 1999 and 2000.

Holy shit, you were in You Were Spiraling? I saw you open for TMBG in Chicago, and I picked up copies of The Hello CD and Delusions of Grandeur. It still ranks as one of my favorite shows ever.

TMBG is one of my favorite bands, going all the way back to when I was 8 and used to dance around in my friend's basement to her sister's copy of Flood. I have all their albums, and Gigantic is actually one of the dvds I brought with me to Japan.

I credit TMBG with ruining me for pop.

I was in 8th grade. Lincoln was relatively new, and my friend Chris Manning put a tape in my hand and said, "You MUST listen to this." Listen I did, and I fell in love.

I like the older stuff more than the newer stuff, mostly out of nostalgia, but I am getting into some of the newer stuff more and more. I get the podcast, though!
