there's been quite the hotbed of discussion re: noise up here in toronto over the last few years...most people i know tend to favour more of the rhythmic noise, less the ambient onslaught style...
anyone else here like the more rhythmic stuff?
lately i've been really listening to AURAL BLASPHEMY, the latest DRYFT ep (mytotyc exyt? i can never spell or say it properly), AH-CAMA SOTZ, the live recording of LUSTMORD VS. METALBEAST (this is one of the rare cd's that NEVER leaves my car...sooooo goooooooooooood), and of course VROMB (talk about proud to be a canadian love )
it's true that girls tend to lose patience with the whole hours and hours of scratchy ear torture, i personally have a very select palate when it comes to noise, but i am most definitely not a hater, i'm an appreciater!

"sure," he said, "go ahead and try and revive the noise thread. see if anyone cares"
i must say i have been getting into a lot of noise recently. part of if is a friend introduced me to the likes of merzbow and also because there's this new record store in town that has a shit ton of noise stuff. apparently the band wolf eyes is becoming quite popular after touring with sonic youth. could noise be about to break into the mainstream? nah, probably not. my favorite would have to be merzbow, the vike/hair police split i picked up, cock e.s.p., the rynbolds, and the eugenics council, which i would recommend for whitehouse fans. i need to pick up some whitehouse now that i think of it. there's a christian noise band called blackhouse, which i'm not sure exactly what to think of.

I like what I heard from Brighter Death Now years ago, and I've always been meaning to order some stuff from Cold Meat Industry. I like Ruhr Hunter as well. But I think I favor ambient more, e.g., Steve Roach and Robert Rich. Eibon Records has some cool stuff too.

"dude," he said to the member who couldn't read his post, "kronos isn't a john zorn project, and it's got nothing to do with noise!"

I have a bunch of friends who listen to noise. They all love and go to lightning bolt shows all the time. I was curious so I had a friend burn me a cd of their stuff.

JESUS CHRIST! It's like trying to make music so bad that it sounds good.

P.S. there are a shitload of noise bands in the providence/olneyville scene. And they all have hilarious names like the Security Envelopes and the Tiny Hawks. It's like fucking mad-libs with these bastards.

Muffin is good stuff. It makes my heart hurt listening to it sometimes, though.

I think I'm kind of undecided on this question. Nothing to add, really.

I live in a house with two small children, so I really don't need noise as an aesthetic statement right now.

lightning bolt completely rules!

well there are different kinds of noise.
LB definitely fits in there somewhere.
i, myself, am not a complete fan of extremely harsh noise like sissy spacek or john weise,
but most any other kind of noise i am obsessed with.

have any of you guys heard of xbxrx, health, the mall, captain ahab.
all of those bands are amazing and also have really awesome noisy side projects!

love

the last time i saw wolf eyes
they played the most terribly harsh noise for two hours straight
accompanied by the most amazing light/fog machine show i have ever seen.
they made my ears hurt so bad, i actually cried through half of it and my friends will never let me forget it.

it was awesome!

Need New Body is awesome. Listen to them without clothes on. If I owned clothes, I would remove them in order to enjoy the full experience.
