Having not released an album since 2001's We Love Life, one might think we'd heard the last of Pulp: maybe, maybe not, said lead singer Jarvis Cocker in an interview with BBC 6 Music, when asked if the band had split up.

We're far too lazy for that kind of dramatic-ness. Pulp, as I'm sure you kind of know, has undergone many periods of hibernation and stuff. I don't know whether we'll do anything again.

I've been doing Pulp since I was 15 years old and I'm now a 41 year old man. Even though we've never released that many records I was always doing it and I just thought 'I'll try summat else'.

I've been writing some songs. When I've got enough ones that I think are fit for human consumption then I'll try and decide what to do with them.

Cocker has spent his recent years in semi-retirement in Paris, but fans can look forward to some new work from him in the upcoming film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, along with Radiohead's Johnny Greenwood and Phil Selway. The three will be part of the band "The Weird Sisters" in the film.

Cocker dismisses his involvement as "just a shameless effort to try and ingratiate myself with kids."

Ugh, pulp. puke

I can't stomach that prick. Ever since I was woken up at 7:00 am every morning for 6 months by the students in the house next door to me playing 'Common people' I have serious issues with a complete asshat from round here who used to dress just like him too....

I could use a new Pulp album. We Love Life was only half good, but anybody who could pull off This Is Hardcore (not to mention Different Class), has my undying admiration.

i love this band, i like even their weirdest postpunk songs in freaks where jarvis sings like a madman. i think he was the best frontman of 90s. a rolemodel for we nerds. i really liked We love life but is the typical album that works but doesn't shakes your soul.
(shakes your soul?? what??) shocked

no, he wanted to smash jacko's head. instead of that some children got hurt. i think jarvis said that looking the pathetic michael jackson performance pretending he was some kind of jesuschrist, surrounded by children was too much for him.

It happened at the Brit Awards. Basically Jacko was on there performing Earth Song in a sickeningly Messianic fashion, wearing a white robe and surrounded by little kiddies- it really was embarrassing. Anyway, Jarvis and one of his friends were really drunk and got onstage. No kids were hurt, that was bullshit cooked up by Jackson's lawyers to try and make Jarvis look like some evil scrawny Satan in geek specs. All Jarvis did was go onstage and wiggle his arse at the camera. Luckily, no-one believed Michael Jackson and everyone loved Jarvis for making Skeletor look like a total tit.

'My Legendary Girlfriend'

You know sometimes...when we're lying together...
and I know you're asleep...I can hear the soft sound of your breathing...
so I get up...and I go to the window...Outside...I can see all the houses...
curtains shut tight against the night...asleep beneath the roof-tiles...
and as I stand here...I wonder...I wonder how many more times...
I'm gonna come here...I wonder how many more times...I'm gonna lie here...
and most of all...most of all I wonder...I wonder what it means...
I just wanna know what it means...So I woke her...
and we went walking through the sleeping town...
down deserted streets...frozen gardens grey in the moonlight...
fences...down to the canal...
creeping slowly past the cooling towers...
deserted factories...looking for an adventure...
I wandered the streets calling your name...jumping walls...
hoping to see a light in the window...let me in...
let me come in...let me in tonight...
oh I see you shivering in the garden...
silver goose-flesh in the moonlight ...she's balancing...
there are so many others...with unbroken eyes...
no cellulite afternoons... and she is balancing...
balancing on the edge of ugliness tonight...
She is balancing...
good God!
My legendary girlfriend,
she is crying tonight,
Oh no she doesn't feel right,
She's got no-one to hold,
Her love is a sham,
He is dancing somewhere.
Oh no he doen't care,
oh well, he'll never know.

Jump...touch my hair...I wanna...I don't care...cos tonight...we could,
maybe we...maybe we can touch the sky...do you think that we can...
do you think that we can...touch the sky...please...I know...
I know it's not forever...but tonight I don't care...
your skin so pale in the moonlight...
and the way your lips swell up when you're asleep...
nothing else matters...do you know how much I want you?...
Can you feel how much I want you?...
Oh
Pitsmoor Woman
oh let
oh let me in tonight

My legendary girlfriend,
she is crying tonight,
Oh no she doesn't feel right,
She's got no-one to hold.
Her love is a sham,
He is dancing somewhere.
Oh no he doen't care,
oh well, he'll never know.
And all the stars came out tonight,
and the moon came on it's face,
It shone right though the clothes she wore,
it shone right through the dress she wore.
Good God

Oh, y'know...listen...listen...please...oh...I just wanna...
I just wanna... ...He falls to sleep again...no cheese tonight...she knows

My legendary girlfriend,
she is crying tonight,
Oh no she doesn't feel right,
She's got no-one to hold.
Her love is a sham,
He is dancing somewhere.
Oh no he doen't care,
oh well, he'll never know.
And all the stars came out tonight,
and the moon came on it's face.
It shone right through the dress she wore,
it shone right through the clothes she wore.
And the stars and the moon,
And the stars all came down today.
Oh please love me tonight
Good God now!

..and yes I do find it hard listening to 'Common People' but they deserved the recognition it brought.

I think I was 12 when His N Hers came out, and what an album to compliment the pubescent thrills we experience at that age. Pulp guided me through my teenage years in many ways – could I have overcome my first broken heart without f.e.e.l.i.n.g.c.a.l.l.e.d.l.o.v.e, could I have partied as hard without Party Hard? It would be great if they brought out another album, and I can't wait to see Jarvis working with Johnny Greenwood, that will be a dynamite combination.
I was fortunate enough to see Pulp live on the This Is Hardcore tour, an experience that will stay with me.

Long live the power of the geek, personified in the great man Jarvis! biggrin
