Or songs that prominently feature places.
This could work any number of ways. How about naming a song for each state? I'm going to start in the middle, though, with Maryland, since this particular song inspired the thread.
"(Don't Go Back to) Rockville" by REM. Rockville, MD
I'm fairly certain this is the Rockville in the song, based on some on-line digging.
Massachusetts?

Hey, we used to play this game at Trivia Night, when I went to that fun thing.

I am going to name Mountain Goats songs:
Going to Georgia
The Best Ever Death Metal Band Out of Denton (I like to believe that this is about the small town of Denton, NC, even though it is probably not, because I have NC PRIDE, BITCHEZ)

and a Wilco song:
Via Chicago

I just realized that maybe you were hoping for alphabetical song-naming action, but I am not that clever. please don't hate me.

"LaGrange" by ZZ Top. LaGrange, Texas

"Texas" by Chris Rea. Well, it's about the whole state. biggrin

I'll quit with those two.

Starting from Massachusetts? I need to learn to read more comprehensively.

In that case: The Get Up Kids - "Mass Pike."

Well, since we've thrown alphabetization to the winds, let me add a state from the end of the alphabet:
"Olympia, Washington" by Rancid.

The Wrens' album "The Meadowlands" is named after that region in New Jersey. And the song "Everyone Choose Sides" actually mentions said region.

Oh! And I thought of a Massachusetts song! "Lowell, Mass." by Death Cab for Cutie.

edited: damn, I don't type fast enough, and now this post is anachronistic and probably completely irrelevant. And holy crap, dictionary_girl changed her name and became a content editor. things are all happenin' too fast for me to handle up in this joint.

"Capital", by Rockapella, which names the capital of every state in America.

I win.

Oh, wait, they forgot Pierre (South Dakota). So someone give a song about South Dakota and you will win.
