I'm by no means a big fan of the genre, but Marley was a pretty fuckin' terrific songwriter.

Not the list I would have made, but it's got it's highlights... Reed / Costello being two of them.

Agreed, but the omission of both Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits basically makes the whole thing null and void.

Drink Coke, play again.

I was going to say Cohen too... and Burt Bacharach, if you care about half the hits that were written in the 70s.

(I'm a sucker for Rain drops keep fallin on my head, and I just don't know what to do with myself)

I've noticed that a lot of people seem to hate reggae around here. Is there some reason for that? Or is it just because it's standard frat boy fare that it's become marginalized?

Nothing wrong with it. I enjoy it, but don't have a strong interest in it.

Reggae has generally been ruined by smelly hippies.

hmm, depeche mode, yazoo and erasure. a pioneer of electronic music and a preservor of analogue synth. I'd say he was more than a foot note. but then, he didnt do all the writing alone.

Boys say Go vs Watching the Detectives, that's all I'm sayin'

(meaning, he may be important to synth pop, but as a real song writer, meh, I wouldn't include him)

That's exactly how I feel. I took the ten guys listed and ranked them according to songcraft. Vince Clark, huge contributor to music, but not to songwriting.

Mick Jones without Joe Strummer? What's the fucking point of that? Unless there's a fanatical B.A.D. fanclub I've missed.
