18 months after opening its investigation into the murder of rapper Notorious B.I.G., the FBI has given up the case. The bureau had become involved in order to investigate the theory that a rogue LAPD officer and Suge Knight associate might have been behind the killing.

The investigation was shut down in January, not long after the FBI discovered that the lead agent on the case, Philip J. Carson, had met with the lawyers for B.I.G.'s mother, Voletta Wallace, and that he'd been subpoenaed to testify in her wrongful-death lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles. That case — which goes to trial on April 12 — accuses the LAPD of covering up police involvement in B.I.G.'s murder, which took place on March 9, 1997 after a music industry party at the Petersen Automotive Museum.

Carson has been forbidden from meeting with Wallace's lawyers again, though the FBI denies that the meeting was the reason the case was dropped, saying instead that "no basis for prosecution" was found.

Wallace's lawyer, Perry Sanders, cited an unidentified source in arguing that the LAPD pressured the FBI to shut down the case, a claim the agency denies, according to the [Los Angeles] Times.

The LAPD's investigation into the murder remains open, according to an officer reached Friday (March 11) in the department's homicide division.

I always found the way this investigation was treated to be pretty fucking nauseating. He was a great talent. It's a shame that the LAPD couldn't have handled this properly from the get-go.

Rolling Stone had an amazing story on the murder of Christopher Wallace a few years ago. Simply amazing. It's a fucking shame that with so much information out there no one has been brought forth for questioning and people are just ignoring it.

Makes me sick.

Everything I've read about both Biggie and 2Pac's murders, leads me to believe that the L.A.P.D. has blood on their hands. It's ludicrous.

I can never remember this, who got killed first, Biggie or Tupac?

Anyway, this is a shame, but not a surprise. To some people he's (to quote Ice Cube) "just another nigger dead." Fuckin' cops.

Well, which one is it?
The LAPD or Ludacris? Surely it can't be both!

you know what gets me (on a somewhat related note)? what ever happened with the Jam Master Jay case?

hip hop artists get killed, and nothing is done about it.

You know we have to learn from mistakes. If you constantly just brush the past under the carpet we would be in even worse shape than we are.

Now that is my kinda joke. And as for the whole hey this happened 8 years ago thing. There's no statute of limitations on murder for a reason. Also, noone is suggesting that every cop in America stop what they're doing to investigate this case. I'm not sure I see the beef.

It's way sketchy that the police have never even identified a suspect in either homicide. And race/culture is almost certainly a factor. If Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt were murdered months apart, you think the cops would just throw up their hands and be like "what the fuck, we got nothin." I'm not saying it's necessarily racism but it's like, "oh they were just two scumbag rappers who gives a shit," or more sinisterly, some people on the force are covering it up.

It just leaves a really bad taste.

It would be nice if the FBI and LAPD gave a thorough investigation to ALL murder cases, not just ones involving famous people, instead of giving up or sticking some poor sucker with the death penalty just to have a scapegoat.

No, I don't have any examples of that happening, leave me alone.
