Best sound for a small place--Mercury Lounge, NYC.

Oh, I should have remembered that for sure. Strike the bowery ballroom and replace it with mercury lounge.

I think they're owned by the same people. Mercury has such a good soundsystem, though.

The Mercury Lounge in NYC will always be my home away from home.

The Opera House in Toronto is a warm and beautiful place.

The Union in Athens, OH.

Bernie's Bagels in Columbus, OH.

The old Brownies in NYC.

Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ is a tight and quirky joint. What is better is that EVERYONE has played there.

Yeah, same folks own both. I agree, Mercury has better sound, and i love that you can watch the band from the bar, and hear a conversation at the same time.

ok, i have a question for you, londoner...

there is a pub at the end of a street in camden, just north of the Camden stop. it's right where the street dead ends...i would love to remember the name so i could recommend it to my friends. it's also just a few spots down the road from some underground club and a record shop. if that's too vague, sorry...it's been a few years. i'm hoping someone might know what i'm talking about. no live music, but great jukebox.

I'm not actually from London, I just go there alot because there isn't much of a music scene in my area of Kent

That would either be The Worlds End (but they don't have a jukebox) or the Purple Turtle, those are the only pubs I go to in Camden anyway, I have been to the shit Goth pub there but the drinks were really expensive (nearly £3 for a coke!?!) but it was really bad and the music sucked, can't remember the name anyway.

xjamescorex: I find the Garage to be a mixed bag, sometimes they'lltreat you like vermin othertimes they just don't care at all. The Underworld still owns tho' great staff, great stage and a good sound. The Electric Ballroom is damn good tho' every gig I've been to has had flawless sound quality. I also have a soft spot for the Elektrowerkz, just because it looks so delapadated and has really dim lights, perfect for Black Metal gigsbiggrin

I'll second The Fillmore, The GAMH, and Bimbo's in SF. Disagree on The Warfield. Don't like the atmosphere and the sound was pretty shitty for every show I've been to there.

I'll also add the Troubador in LA.
