I don't know anything about the music business part of it, but from a concert-goer standpoint, the Middle East is a good place to see a show. I'd probably rather go there than the Lansdowne St. clubs.

The Middle East upstairs is a great venue. It's small, but I adore it. Very intimate and a lot of fun. If anyone in Boston wants to check out great (and especially local), they go to the Middle East upstairs.

I've seen Rasputina play downstairs as well as the Melvins. It's a neat little place.
I'm going to be seeing Mudhoney there in April (hopefully) which should be awesome.

I'm also going to go see Impaled and Aborted when they play the Middle East... which seems a bit odd to me for some reason. I figured they'd play the Palladium or something. Death metal downstairs !

I vaguely know the guy who books the downstairs shows, and thus used to get in for free. It's a nice venue but it gets very warm and stuffy in the summer.

It is close to impossible to get a show there if you an unsigned band.

We are unsigned. All I did was send an E-mail with an attached MP3 asking if we could play there. They got back to us in a day or two with a date.

My friend's band is also unsigned and playing the next night after us.
