I'm pretty clueless as to the current state of music, so can somebody explain to me why bands are all using animals in their names these days.

A far-from-complete list:

Metal Porpoise
Hot Snakes
Guitar Wolf
Mastodon
Manaconda
Whale
Wolf Eyes
Deer Hoof
Bear Suit
We vs. the Shark
Pelican
Cougars
The Reindeer Section

Do I need to change the name of my band to "Elephant Eye" or something?

c'mon, dude. you're from chicago and you didn't even list Sweet Cobra or Tortoise.

These things come in waves, really. I mean think of rock in the 70's/80's and all the "places/travelling" themed names - Chicago, Kansas, Alabama, Journey, Boston, Europe, etc.

I've taken the liberty of arranging a timeline of place-themed names (I replaced Journey with America) based on the release of their first album.

Chicago-1969
America-1972
Kansas-1974
Boston-1976
Alabama-1980
Asia-1982
Europe-1983

These were spread out over a period of 14 years, an average of one band every two years. I'm pretty sure that 6 new animal bands were born since I started this thread.

Man, way to ruin a perfectly good joke. Spoilsport. tongue
