Maybe I'm alone in my appreciation of him, but I think Jens Lekman has clearly replaced Nina Persson as Sweden's pop wunderkind for the new millenium. He's clearly more melancholy than even Stephin Merritt, more saccharine than the Cardigans, and writes better songs than Belle & Sebastian. I've also read that the new wave of Swedish pop is arriving on American shores starting this weekend with the First Jens Lekman American Tour (tm). So, is anybody else going?

nina persson was sweden's pop wunderkind? i never knew.
but jens lekman is cool. it's too bad he can't call himself rocky dennis, though. good name, that.

Okay, I was reaching on that. But how do they produce so much good pop in such a small country?

it's not really a small country. but i might see sweden as a bigger country since i'm from denmark. and denmark is a small country.
but sweden has lots of good stuff, this is true.

other swedish pop bands (in case you hadn't heard of them): action biker, first floor power, the radio dept., håkan hellström, suburban kids with biblical names, logh, the honeydrips, sibiria and second-hand furniture.

oh and september malevolence, scraps of tape, audrey and kvlr. but those are not so pop. still good, though.

I just discovered this band last night and I am in love.
Yellow Lights Mean Slow Down, Not Speed Up is an amazing song.

Why did I used to start such shitty threads? That Jens Lekman show was really good, though.
