I always thought "Stars" was the kinda song Metallica would/should write if they were to do love songs (you know- that were good).

Just played it last night on a Winamp file, in fact. Great song.

Downward Is Heavenward is one of the best albums I've ever heard. Besides that, all I've heard is "Stars." I really need to listen to their other songs, but just haven't found the time. Anyhow, I love them. I need to check this Centuar out!

Hum LOVER.
The last thing I heard about them was a car accident cutting their tour short.

I saw them and the Toadies open for Bush (don't ask) in 1996 and was just blown away. That record they put out (I forget what the name was because it's been stolen from me several times and I never find it in record stores) was just so cool. "I Hate it Too" is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Judging by your location we were probably at the same show. biggrin I still love Hum

i cant stand that band, but that song where Matt Talbott sings the whole thing is pretty good

if they sound like Hum is only because Matt Talbott produced their last album and recorded it at his studio

hum is, if not my favorite band, easily one of my top 3. have you guys heard the "puppets/aphids" ep? it's two unreleased songs that they pitched to RCA before they got dropped. i bought it off ebay for $10. "puppets" is so fucking amazing, it kills me. it shows the direction they probably would've headed had they kept it together.

and centaur is A+, also. i had the good fortune to catch one of their rare live shows back in '03. i even got my picture taken with matt talbott! god, i'm a nerd.

I'm damn determined to make the trek from Georgia to Illinois to see that Hum reunion show.

And boo to me for getting the album name wrong in my first post here. confused I finally got my hands on a copy though. I saw it at Tower records and nearly had a heart attack. I dove for the damn thing. biggrin

Fuck...now I see that the envelope to get the tickets needed to be postmarked by Sept. 10th. frown And I just found out yesterday...dammit. Sending one anyway, Might get lucky...

yes i have, and yes i totally agree that it should've been on astronaut. as far as greatest hum song ever written, though, i think "little dipper" holds that title for me.

that whole album does it for me
its really difficult to pick a favorite song because it really all acts as one song cause you just get sucked into it
there are so many subtleties in that album that you only pick up as you listen to it a million times
