I'm playing an 80's american strat with lace sensor pickups... I find it's the best thing I've played, has the bite of a strat but the pickups give it a more bassy sound... My brother has a 72 SG which I've played around on quite a bit, but it doesn't really feel right to me.. I used to have a jackson rhodes v (dear god!) with a floyd rose trem and I fucking hated it!!! Never again! I really want a fender jazzmaster or a gibson firebird next.... I also need to get a 'metal' guitar at some stage, probably an ESP or something.
