He recently canceled dates in Texas. The Internet rumor is he received death threats after making some ( fairly bland ) Bush comments during his Fort Worth concert. The official reason is strained vocal chords. I tend to believe he is just sick. The guy has been touring pretty hard and while he has been known to cancel shows in the past for questionable reasons, I tend to think he's just tired and is genuinely ill. He's no spring chicken and has been belting out unusually long set lists at his shows. Travel plus lots of singing = sick Moz.

Oh, and Tuffy, did you see the poster Jermaine did?

I did indeed. He'll still be selling them, I believe. Check Jermaine's website.

I just saw the man. I know some people don't like to mix their music with politics, but I wish he would have said a little more. He didn't even play his new song about America from his new album.

But Jon Stewart for president?? I agree with Jon Stewart when he says "I don't want a 'regular guy' for president. I want someone who is so much more intellegent than me that I don't WANT to have a beer with him."

It's like some of you are shocked that morrissey has all the sudden become politically active. Hello? The Smiths - The Queen is Dead. Anyone?

For non-Americans, the United States is suddenly not a very nice place to visit because US immigration officers – under the rules of Bush – now conduct themselves with all the charm and unanswerable indignation of Hitler’s SS.

Actually, I can vouch for that. Last time I came back from Canada (December 2002), I had my driver's license, social security card, voter's registration card, selective service registration card, and a raging Southern accent to boot...and somehow that still wasn't enough for the border patrol nazis. Next thing I know, I was taken into a back room, interrogated, sent through an overly-sensitive metal detector (since it was -13 degrees outside, I had on five layers of clothing...it took a while) and then had to sit and watch while latex-gloved agents searched through all my luggage. There was an Arab-looking guy from my bus in line in front of me who didn't even speak English...and he somehow got through Customs faster than I did. The whole thing was insane...thankfully, my bus driver (a Canadian citizen, of course) was kind enough to wait for me, even if it DID result in my fellow passengers arriving forty minutes late to Buffalo.

He was as baffled by the whole experience as I was...

whatever. it just irks me when people put value in the opinion of musicisans, actors and the like.

why? what makes them any less significant than anyone else? is it not possible for "musicians, actors and the like" to have something good to say?

As far as rock stars/musicians talking politics, that's fine.

Honestly, how can we complain? We have talking heads who sometimes have less knowledge that *we* do, telling americana what is happening or how to think about something. Rock stars are far less likely to be paid political consultants.

I feel bad for those people who are upset that their favorite bands/stars don't have politics in line with their own. I remember reading ...well, rants, on the new republic, by people upset by Rock Against Bush/Future Soundtrack for America. "I'll never buy an album of theirs again!"

Whatever. THAT is partisan behavior, suggesting that any opinion other than yours is incorrect and somehow destructive. It's the worst element of the republican party at its current state, favoring loyalty oaths over legitimate thoughts and concerns.

Partisans need to grow up, and look at practical considerations. Ideologs are fringe, and need to stay that way.

This may be an example of getting the wrong guy on the wrong day, but my mom had a less than glowing review of the U.S. Border Patrol up in Canada. My sister lives in Seattle and my parents went to visit not too long ago. While there, they decided to go into Canada for the day to do some sightseeing.

My mom said that the Canadian guards were polite and friendly...some of them even (gasp) smiled and said outlandish things like "Thank you for visiting" and "Enjoy your stay in Canada"

Conversely, she reported that the U.S. guards were gruff, accusatory and not very pleasant at all. I'm not saying you can base the reputation of an entire nation's Border Patrol on one experience.......but at least from what I hear...there's a bit of a pattern.

And if we do not value the words of the artists that we admire, who can we admire or--more to the point--who else should we *not* listen to?

If we do not value the opinion of artists on politics or other social issues, is that to say that we should only listen to politicians about politics? Should we listen to only musicians about what good music is or where to find it?

And what then are the rules about commenting on SG girls? Only other SG girls should have an opinion?

Good -- I'm glad to hear that he didn't play that America song from his new record! Not because of its America is stupid message, but its hands down the worst thing he's ever done musically.

I'll let it slide though, everyone has some off moments every now and again. smile

should have edited my post to say "it just irks me when people overvalue the opinion of musicisans, actors and the like."

just thought it was an assinine(sp?) idea of news. I respect Jon Stewert as a profound satirist, but not as a public official. continue to flame me if you like.

It's true, that song sucks hard. It's the first track on the new album and it stinks up an otherwise solid record.
