1. Pantera

Down the road.... You just realize they were the penultimate mook metal band. None of Slayer's musical chops, no urge to experiment like Ministry, no knack for songwriting like Metallica. What did they have instead? A guitar player named "Dimebag".

2. The Exploited

They had a "Sid Vicious Was Innocent" tshirt and I thought that a whole song based around chanting the letters E-X-P-L-O-I-T-E-D was really clever. It wasn't.

3. The Casualties

The Sha Na Na of the '90s punk scene. Are they even still around?

4. Spacehog

Admit it. They really did suck besides for that one song.

5. Front 242

I thought it was industrial but it was really disco all along.

Anyone else?

14? It's a fuzzy period of time. I think that may have been my Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith and Scorpions phase. Followed shortly by listening to Soundgarden's "Louder Than Love" practically 24/7, and then of course every record Sub Pop ever put out.

No way, Pantera is awesome! They might not be as experimental or have better song writering skills or crazier musical chops, but no one can make sicker metal riffs than Dimebag!

Hmmm I liked Jamarioqui a lot when was I was 14. But now I realize that they were just the white version of Stevie Wonder haha.

strangely... while my musical taste has certainly grown since my death-metal only days of 14, i have yet to throw away a single CD or stop listening to any one of those bands from my past.

Frighteningly enough, they are. And they still have WAY too much free time to devote to their hair.

For two months at 14, I was determined to learn how to dance (because I could never work up the nerve to ask a girl to dance, so at least I fugured I could dance by myself). So I listened to nothing but KISS FM for like 4 months, and listened to All 4 One, PM Dawn, and Bell Biv Davoe. I would even watch MTV's "The Grind".

So...after a couple of months, I learned the Running Man, and the Cabbage Patch, and then just went back to listening to Mazzy Star and Toad The Wet Sprocket. And I kept my love of Dance... smile

Although, come to think of it, Toad The Wat Sprocket nothign to be proud of, either...
