I've got mine on pre-order at my local independent music store.

That day, I also get the new Daniel Johnston tribute which Waits has contributed to ("King Kong").

And the new Fela Kuti mix CD done by Chief Xcel.

It'll be a good week.

I appreciate Tom Waits:

I bought The Future Soundtrack of America, which has "Day After Tomorrow" on it, and I can't wait for the whole album to come out.

And Marauder is now one of my favorite people, after saying that Raindogs changed her life.

Just listened to the first three tracks. The audio was really shitty, but I could tell it was good stuff. He's really hit his stride again, it's very impressive.

Anyone who doesn't post to this thread has violated my trust a manner most unforgivable.
Despite all his years and his myriad recordings, the man is still underappriciated.
In a recent moments of glory, or something, he appeared at a benefit in NYC for Tibet. The performance ended somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 pm. Waits was the closing act. When he took the stage, he said something to the effect of this-
'They say we've gotta ,ake it an early night because his Holiness has to get to bed. That's not the Holiness I used to know.'
Beautiful Maladies, indeed.

um, yeah, tom fucking waits...

saw him twice in nyc in september of '99. i took particular satisfaction in the fact that i had better seats than elvis costello, which i guess only means that i got up earlier than he did on the day tickets went on sale.

i also met my future ex fiance there.

Tom Waits is one of the truly great figures in American music and he just keeps getting better. Blood Money and Alice were masterpieces. Can't wait to get my hands on Real Gone.

Anyone ever heard his super-early stuff, from his country/folk days? I downloaded one big cut off of it from limewire some time ago. Stuff like, "looks like I'm up shit creek again." It's really good, and totally different from his later stuff.

How early is super early? I have his first album, (Closing Time) but I don't know if there were EPs leading up to it. Either way, it's great stuff.

I just recently started getting into him. I have closing time and a bunch of downloaded crap. I tend to like his earlier, prettier stuff more, as i'm not quite used to the gravel-voice yet. i like it a lot on the weirder noisy stuff, but i dont think it fits ballads/slow numbers as well (time, come on up to the house). i really like how well he captures mood/feel though.

i could see liking him a lot with some time. i've been listening to "closing time" a lot lately. really good album.

i saw the black rider (the play) just this afternoon, written by burroughs, songs by waits, directed by robert wilson... real theater of the absurd stuff, intensely wierd, kinda transreal, like a dark unreconstructed fairy tale musical with fantabulous sets... lots of fluourescent tube lighting, for some reason, and a band with all that crazy-go-nuts instruments from black rider (album) era..

two thumbs disorientedly up.

i've heard there's supposed to be a play that Alice is the soundtrack to... anybody know more about that? maybe a sequel to black rider?
