The prolific singer/songwriter's recent album, License To Chill, debuts at the #1 spot on the Billboard Music Charts. This is the first number one rated album for Buffet during a career which has spanned over thirty years. His previous highest album chart showing followed the release of his last album in 2002, Far Side of the World which reached the number five spot. License to Chill easily outdistanced recent highly rated albums by artists Usher and The Roots. Speculation abounds that Buffet's #1 position could potentially be downgraded by the recent debut album release of up-and-coming sensation Ashlee Simpson.

Don't get me wrong. i don't mind jimmy buffet. some of his stuff isn't to bad. and i am not thinking about the songs that every one heres at resteraunts and bars. I have read most of his books and don't feel as if i wasted my time in reading them. the thing is my dad is a HUGE jimmy buffet fan. when he came to visit around christmas time all we did was drive up and down the coast listening to buffet while riding in a convertible. did this for two days. that is not my idea of fun

His live albums were better when he was shitfaced on stage, back when there was no Jimmy Buffett, Inc. and no Parrotheads ("You Had to Be There.") Not a great songwriter, not the greatest singer, but fuckit, I own one of his really early CDs for that day or three out of the year I'm in the mood.

Fuel for Grateful Dead haters: he covers "Scarlet Begonias" whatever

This makes me happy. Jimmy Buffett is one of my favorite musicians and philosophers. I don't care that most of my generation doesn't get it. Jimmy has too much wisdom to be cool with a generation that holds the guys on Jackass as heros.
