I guess I just don't get the obvious question. Why was she drinking ginseng in front of a liquor store. Why does the picture look like she posed for it.
This just reeks of publicity stunt, like getting married just before releasing an album, etc. The monetary sum is probably what they agreed to pay her behind closed doors, only they can do some accounting finagling by paying it as a settlement rather than a salary.
Its not a liquor store, its a convenience store on PCH, and she didn't pose for it, she's been followed by a busload of Paparazi ever since she cancelled her tour because any photo that they can write something sleazy about is worth tens of thousands of dollars.
Sorry, but according to vh1.com, she bought the bottle from "Joe's Liquor". I guess I read vader's paragraph wrong though.
Sorry, but I've actually been there. It may be called Joe's Liquor, but its a convenience store. Unlike most other places you don't need a special liquor license in California. You can sell liquor at the supermarket, the gas station and the corner store. If you actually look at the pictures, what you see is racks of junk food.

Haha... "the MEDIA."
I'm a fucking reporter, and I can tell you that I pick the stories I write about based on their newsworthiness, no their celebrity shock factor.
And many people in this thread seem to hope that the paper either settles or goes to court on the assumption it'll lose. Well, libel is a tough case to prove. Mass communication laws in the U.S. are geared to protect the rights of journalists. Spears would have to prove that the writer and editors of the Post had malice in mind in printing the story. Simply mistaking which drink it was as an accident would not lead to a huge cash payout.

From what I can see, they all but called Britney an alcoholic. If she wasn't even drinking alcohol, I think she could get a fair amount of money out of the twits. It wasn't like it was some picture of a squirrel with the caption, "A squirrel rests on a perch in front of a liquor store before going in for his long winter's nap. That's Britney with some whiskey back there, by the way." They were trying to make it out like Britney's got a drinking problem.
