We'll If you only heard the "emo" shit on the radio I can't blame you. If that's not the case then kiss my ass.

I don't hate emo. I don't like emo.
I take it band by band. I'll hate or love or be neutral on any number of bands and then discover later that they 'emo' or whatever. It's such a silly word.
I don't even get what allows music into the Emo club and what makes a person say, "i'm emo".
if anything, there's a lot of making fun of Emo as a catagory or a lifestyle, and not necessarily bands that have been called emo or kids who wear horn-rims.
I do hate Jimmy, though. And the Promise Ring. And.. umm.. that Folky guy with the band name as his name. Or his name is the band name. What's his name? I hate that guy.
I will have to take a stand for "emo" but only if we're talking about the early days of it when it wasn't a marketing term. I like a bit of the bands that would fall into this catagory, but the funny thing is most of the bands that do fall into this hate the term. It's the same thing they did with the term "alternative" remember when that meant something, or am I dating myself.
Well just like any sub-culture you just don't decide to become it one day. I'm not really Emo it's just my prefernce as far as new music today goes. Most of the shit that comes out in The Punk/Rock/Goth vein is just crap.
And the image of the emo kid with the horned rimmed glasses and the too tight sweater carrying a copy of some J.D. sallinger book is far from reality. Although there are a very few kids who may dress that way although I never met them.

I know you were. I was just playing on the fact that you started a thread that was critical of members for slamming a particular type of music en masse. And then you went on to say that another genre is crap.
Why bash ANYONE'S music? You may not like it, but there's someone out there who loves it, whose tastes it fits perfectly. and if you're going to complain about people bashing YOUR music, you can't bash other people's music.
Ugh, I wasn't bashing. I never said "EMO OWNS ALL MUSIC" because that would be lying. I was trying to draw a comparsion to "Good emo music" to the crap that has come out now. Just like if you were trying to get someone into alterantive music you wouldn't have them listen to Linkin Park..
Holy shit! No one has EVER hi-fived me. I guess I was just never cool enough. *lol*

Hmmm...
Why tell someone they should get into Alternative when you can tell them to pick up a Pixies record? Or Nirvana, or anything else. Why tell someone that they should be more punk when you can make them a Ramones / Clash mix tape. Instead of telling me why old emo is good and coporate emo is shit, why don't you tell me what you listen to and why its good? I'll probably check it out. I like music.
I was about to ask the same thing. And then, AFTER we name it (out of a ZILLION different names that really mean nothing, because it's all freakin' music in the end!), we have to develop a hierchy for it: this is more "_____" than THIS, etcetc.
Sigh.
Why can't we just enjoy our music as it is, without categorizing it infinitely, and let other people's musical tastes alone?

Awesome. I have a lot of those CDs, too. Small Brown Bike I've heard a few from, and like. 7 circles of hell I don't know. Is it screamy? I like screamy. I've been a closet PJ fan ever since Ten squeeked my through Grade 12. (Saw them open for the RHCP + Pumkins WAY before that. Like them then, didn't like SP so much. They were pissy.)
Kittie's from my hometown, so I dunno if that counts. I can't really take them seriously because I used to listen to their demo tape which was recorded on a Boombox when they REALLY didn't know how to play. It was still fucking pissed off, though.
I'll check out a few of those others, though. I'm always looking for shit to play on my show.
In my line of sight I can see amongst the chaos: Refused, QOTSA, Shellac, Supersuckers, Clutch, Slayer, the Pink SDRE record (really REALLY didn't like the new stuff), PJ Harvey and The Clash's Combat Rock.
