i just found the version of this album that i downloaded before the album came out and i've realized that it sounds a lot better than the fully mastered version. on the rough cut that i got a while ago the drums are a lot huger on all tracks, the string sections are a little different in parts, and the whole thing sounds a lot rougher and more kick ass. the final cut seems a little too slick and a lot of the really big sweeping parts are lackluster compared to the rougher one. any thoughts on the album in general?

I liked the record, but this rougher version sounds rather interesting.

i always liked the rougher sound from the earlier albums better, sorta wish i had a rougher mix of the new one. i haven't been able to get into it. all this big production somehow makes them sound a lot less unique.

yeah i totally agree, try to find the rougher mix, it is really worlds better somehow. i bought the album when it came out and all i ever do is listen to the burned copy of the one i downloaded.

Never heard the demo version. Quite like the released version. Quite like it a lot.

i downloaded it off soulseek maybe three weeks before the official release. you can get it from me if you want. my soulseek name is soptl, i'll leave it on for a while. the songs are very similar its just the levels and overall sound that are different. but it really makes a huge improvement in my opinion.

and if anyone isnt using soulseek to download music, shame on you.

i saw them live about 4 or 5 years ago and was really suprised at how raw they sounded... i didn't really like them that much until i saw that show.

what's the "rough" version listed under, when you search for it?

The mix that was released is apparently what the band's vision was. I not sure how you can make the statement that some pirated rough mix is "better." As to the album itself, I find it rather bland. Nothing great, nothing horrible.

by better i mean i think it sounds better. you might like it "better" too since you think the final is bland. maybe i dont agree with the band's "vision". i'm not going to like something more just because the band thinks i should like the final presentation best. a lot of times bands test out songs on the road that are way better than the versions that end up on the album. same deal.

heard the album. the music is so so, but the singer is annoying. "float on" is alright though.
