Americano-European cult band the weathermen emerged out of the mid- 80s electronic body music wave, creating a sub-category for themselves that never received a proper name. Combining beat driven melodies and sarcastic social commentary, The Weathermen burst out of their self-imposed anonymity onto the international music scene.
They have been compared to a groovier and politically minded Devo or, more recently, Front 242 meets Massive Attack and exchange jokes.
Their songs covered subjects as diverse as drunk driving, red necks, pollution, JFKs berlin, BDSM cliches and mindless sex habits.
What had begun as a private joke soon became a fairly marketable commodity, with over 100,000 records sold, 18 records or CDs, two video clips on heavy rotation on MTV, three European tours and one American Tour, and wow two songs used on the fabulously successful Baywatch series. One Weathermen song , Poison even made it to the German Top 50 singles. The band was signed on Waxtrax records before moving on to Mute USA.
But seeing Pamela Andersons butt moving in rhythm with their music was going to be all too much for The Weathermen and if in the sixties Andy Warhol predicted that everybody would be famous for 15 minutes, the acceleration of time and the utter domination of the audiovisual media 30 years later reduced drastically that window of glory: The Weathermen decided that they had had their 15 frames of glory and disappeared from the scene. They were going to be missed.
Twelve years later, The Weathermen have come back from wherever they went to hide to record a new CD album. Their warped electronics and perpendicular music is indeed very welcome in todays bland music scene who seem to only respond to one word: endless and boring recycling with no attitude nor artistic statement .
The Weathermen, incidently, started recording the new album, "Deeper with the Weathermen" the day Dubya Jr invaded Iraq. It contains insights about his military industrial complex and samples one of his most famous phrases ever. The album goes on to scrap several other subjects including fucking machines, Hollywood's lifestyle, cellular phones, and self-contained computer-controlled condos. The Weathermen also give a whole new perspective to the Bacharach classic Close to You. Deeper With The Weathermen has been picked up as Album Of The Month on several electro websites and magazines.
It is available in the USA and Canada thru cd baby at 10 US $

BUMP........now that is a band that everybody needs to here....I love those guys....can't wait to here the new album
That's old news for me since we had a hardcore Weathermen fan come in the store asking about it a few months back. I had no idea that they were making a new cd but this kid had been waiting for it since they started recording.
