how can you honestly say that the grateful dead didn't care about revnue when they were the top grossing touring act ever when that fat fucking junkie was still alive. yeah i saw them and it was a great place to take acid with a bunch of people but come on....it's like david cross says, i don't want to pay a hundred bucks to hear my friends dick around on guitar for three hours.....
not that your opinion is invalid but i am grateful that he's dead.

Their revenue was huge because they did 3 full tours a year, plus 20+ west coast shows. Name another band that does that year in and year out. The dead played at least 6 shows every month and averaged about 100 shows a year and that doesn't include solo projects (Jerry Garcia band between electric and acoustic averaged about 55 shows a year), kinda boosts your gross revenue when you play every 3rd day all year long including a summer stadium tour for 80,000 people a show. Concerts do not make you money in comparison to "commercial success". Albums, marketing, commercials... these are the money maker. The Dead had one album that made the top 20 out of 26 albums, 24 of them never even touched the top 100 and had a span of 14 years with 2 albums. They made a fortune, yah of course, but any band that can sell out (from 85 on every show sold out) 850 shows in under a decade is gonna make alot of money. Look in the same years at the highest money making music artists, Jerry made more then any member of the dead, and he made 1/20th of what Madonna did in a year she didn't even tour

ooof, I admit, I do hate Radiohead too, except the song Creep, and it doesn't sound like the rest of their music.

May I be so bold as to add Skinny Puppy. I FUCKING HATE Skinny Puppy, thanks. Neubauten I can live with. Front 242, tolerable. Skinny Puppy, pure nausea for me.

Why has no one mentioned KISS yet?

I'm sorry, but I think KISS is THE most overrated band EVER!!!! HOW did they ever crawl out of obscurity? They suck! Niether Gene Simmons nor Paul Stanley can carry a tune...Ace Freehley sound like every other hessian on guitar.......

All they are is a fucking stage show. Maybe they should give up on the music and just do visual stuff.

They are HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree with SweetSadist... I would even go so far as to call the dead underrated... since most people attribute appreciating their music with getting high (usually turning it into a joke), rather than the exceptional quality of the music itself. They were a very talented band.

what about NICKLEBACK?! they're from my hometown(actually they're from Alberta but moved to Van to get big) and all the radio stations here play them over and over and talk about them like they're second coming of rock.same goes with their protege bands, DEFAULT and THEORY OF A DEAD MAN(both from Vancouver as well). i mean they're a fucking bar band for chrissakes! a couple years ago, my friends band used to play with them in metal bars all the time.

Those of us who lived in Minneapolis and would see Dave Pirner pathetically stumbling around any number of bars while making a fool of himself know how true this is. Agreed.

Speaking of pathetic stumbling, Dave Matthews was known to do a LOT of that in C'ville, when he still dained to set his feet back in his hometown.

He was also known to come on to a lot of strange woman, many of which rejected him.

The Beatles are the most overrated band of all time...the Rolling Stones and The Who did it better and when they got all psychedelic Pink Floyd did it way fucking better. Its all about Syd Barrett

I see lists of bands people can't stand listening to, or say are overrated...but not too much is being writen to back up your points.

Those of you who think the Beatles or Stones..etc etc. are overrated are way out of touch. The simple fact that their music helped define and foster a whole musical movement should be proof enough they earned some respect.

When you think of an overrated band I imagine someone who is huge now, and will be forgoten in 10 years

LIke Creed!!!
