Placebo - My Sweet Prince ...Excellent song. Very dark and empty sounding. This song was actually introduced to me by an unrequiting love of mine. At least I got something out of that experience besides emotional scars.
Pretty much any song written by John Dowland (1563 - 1626). He seemed an expert on Love Unrequited. Flow my tears, and Come again, sweet love are good ones.
Though, not all the songs are about unrequited love, the album, Songs Our Daddy Taught Us, by the Everly Brothers will thoroughly depress. The album is a collection of Appalachian folk songs. Some of which were brought over from Europe. All of which are tragic. Dying mothers, jailed sons, murdered lovers. It's good shit.
Sorry if you were just looking for rock songs. I gave you one, so I'm not totally useless. I'm really into music history. My tastes are all over the map.
