In the last year there have been quite a handful of bands reuniting, some to cash in on past fame, others just for kicks.

Then there was the Clash. Apparently before his death, Joe Strummer and fellow Clash members were planning to reunite for the 2003 Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame induction - nothing more. Read more at Billboard.com.

I'm glad they didn't though. They were a great band but some stones are better left unturned (see embarassing Sex Pistols reunion)...

The Clash is the best fucking band ever.

I'm sorta glad they didnt reunite. God knows what the Clash would have been in 2003. I sorta even like BAD.

With that said, I have not made any point. It seems like I started writing this to make a point, but I guess I failed.

Give em enough rope is my favortie album, what's yours?

London Calling is their best, and the best album to come out of the whole initial punk movement. If not the greatest rock album ever.

I'm so glad they never reunited. I couldn't survive seeing them live and having them not live up to my expectations. It would truly suck.

I still get pissed off because I hear fucking 'London Calling' in Jaguar commercials...

did any of you read the article?
it would have only been for the RnRhalloffame. the only other way they would have reunited was if they released another studio album. here. read.

At a question-and-answer session following the film's May 7 premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, Rude said that at first Strummer did not want to reunite with the band, which dissolved in 1986. But the singer changed his mind, because he did not like the idea of anyone else performing in his place.

However, Strummer did not plan to work with the Clash after the Hall of Fame reunion. "He didn't want to tour for a quick buck," Rude said. Indeed, any possible Clash reunion would have happened only in support of a new studio album. "Joe knew that would be very difficult," Rude added.

Yeah the Clash did it right..in 1991 when "Should I Stay.." was back on charts they were offered bog money to reunite and Strummer said no.
That having been said,we need a band like the Clash now more then ever.
They planned on playing 1 song at Hall of Fame induction ceremony but with Stummer gone they couldnt do it.
Insofar as best album, their first Lp (UK release) and all their Ep's up 'Give 'Em Enough Rope'..after that
they became a rock band with punk roots instead of a punk band..nothing wrong with that, mind you.Read 'Last Gang In Town' by Marcus Grey it's a Clash encyclopedia.

I would have given anything for a Clash reunion. I know it would have been a disgrace to the original band, but I would have wanted a chance to see them live. frown

Give the clash a little more credit than that.... Bands liek the Dead Kennedys and Sex pistols reunite for commercial reasons which is why they end up being so terrible.... But when say Buzzcocks and Wire play shows now they are still as amazing and passionate because they are doing it because they truly love it.

Mmmm...listening to The Clash.

Honestly, even if thier reasons for reuniting were non-commercial I'm glad it never happened. Just glad I got to see Joe Strummer before he passed. frown

the clash reunited playing one show would have been fantastic. end of story.

i was devastated when joe strummer died - his last record with the mescaleros, global a-go-go, had come to be a really important touchstone for me.

the clash will always be important to me - they're a classy band. a reunion show would have been reason to celebrate, not to get your marketing schemata drawn up...

Yeah it would have been awesome to see The Clash play one last time, especially at their own Hall of Fame induction. But it would be pointless for them to countinue on without Strummer.

I'm not old enough to have caught the Clash in performance... regrettably...

But in October of 2001 I was lined up in a drizzling rain outside the Fillmore in SF to see Joe Strummer and his Mescaleros. And I was worried that this guy -- as old as my dad -- maybe didn't have it in him anymore. Maybe he was long past his prime and years of rock and roll abuse had taken their toll. What he had, I realized three hours later, was the incomparable ability to bring every man, woman, and child to fist-pumping euphoria. Best show I ever saw. Best show I'll ever see.

And as much Clash reunion as I could have ever dreamed of.

Cheers, Joe.

Dude, you don't have any idea what you missed. They were greater than you can imagine. Perhaps the reason I am so hard on so many of the bands you like is because I have The Clash as a yard stick to measure them against.
