Shit, Led Zeppelin based a lot of their music off the "Lord of the Rings" books.
All of their fourth album, Runes, is completely based from those books.
Makes for some damn good rock and fucking roll...

Jethro Tull - One Brown Mouse
Based loosely on the poem "To a Mouse" by Robert Burns. Which also inspired the title of some random Steinbeck book with this excerpt,
"The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men,
Gang aft agley
"

London psychedelic-scene band The Soft Machine and the American 70's jazz-rock band Steely Dan took their names from William S. Burroughs' writings.

also The Divine Comedy is named after Dante's book of the same name.

joy division.

from what i understand, the name comes from a historical fiction about WW2. in the book, the joy division was in charge of impregnating jewish women with aryan children. this is what i've been told anyway.

it sounds like such a nice name, but it toally isnt.
