i say nay.

how many members of Franz Ferdinand does it take to screw in a lightbulb? None. because Gang Of Four did it already.

i dunno, call me crazy... but it just doesnt click for me. some Sony rep gave me the cd and even though all the signs point to 'yes' on me liking the band it just doesnt click. yeah its catchy but it sounds like some british record exec said 'hey, lets combine Gang Of Four and Pulp'. it sounds forced in the way that Jet sounds forced. like i said, catchy... just something about it TOTALLY rubs me the wrong way and i cant put my finger on it.

this is all personal opinion... dont get all up in my grill for berating your favorite band or whatever, but does *anyone* else see what i'm talking about? or not? open discussion.

Yeah, I kind of liked 'em a little at first but it wore off quick. Not much depth, but still better than 95% of the steaming dung out there in radio-land.

When I'd only heard them at house parties and bars and shit I pretended I didn't like 'em much to score some more indie cred.
Today I bought the album and all the cred is gone. They rock.

I'm kinda wary to check them out. I already have British Sea Power's album, and that might be all the post-punk throwback I need at the moment.

just another tossing on the same formula...I guess the year 2000's are all about recycling....they rock, yeah, but so do thousands of bands, and only a small % of them get the major treatment so you never hear about them....

Just because lots of other bands rock and don't get attention doesn't mean one should diss on awesome, talented bands who do.

I thought they were ok when they were first getting played but now they are being played like four times an hour everyday on the radio (makes me wanna scream) they have got a different sound compared with alot of newish bands that are on the scene at the mo and after all everyone is inspired from someone...

I think Take Me Out is genuinely brilliant. Quite a few of my friends have the album and Ive heard it a fair bit. Yeah it does remind me of Pulp. Its a bit too much of one sound (disco-indie-art) but its their first album. Will be interesting to see if they can take their sound on a level..

they're not original. in fact, if i hear one more urban outfitters-esque "garage-rock" big sunglasses fruity hipster mtv2 band i will bury my head in a tub of boiling lard until either i die or my ears melt off.

admittedly, the first and only time i heard a couple of the songs at borders (yesterday) i thought they were pretty neat. neat like your friend plays it for you in the car and is all stoked about it and you go, well, it's okay to drive around to. but i wouldn't buy the album and i wouldn't want to listen to it over and over again. same case with the faint (speaking of an enitrely different genre)

you can only listen to so much of the same, and i have noticed a gigantic influx of psuedo indie-pop lately. it's sad.

Bwahahah... good one.

I say nay also. Kinda fun, but leaves me feeling empty afterwards, like a little bit of my soul's been sucked out.

I don't think they're terrible. They're certainly not great. But no band ever could live up to the level of hype they've recieved.

FF has been celebrated all over this board sweetcakes. the popular vote seems to be yay. i am indeed in favor! i think they are fucking rock! ii do compare them more to gang of four than anyone else as you will see in the other thread about it but dude..gang of four is awesome, so i'm ok with that. they bring something else to the role. it's not at all a rip off.

by calling them Gang Of Four it wasnt an insult, i like 'em.

i think SuicideBomb and JumpinJackShit said it best in their posts.

while i'm at it: its not like i'm going around handing out petitions for Franz Ferdinand to get killed. I don't think theyre terrible, just not nearly as great as theyre being made out to be.
