I saw them... last week, I belive in Cambridge (MA... you fucks). They were amazing. I was up front, and boy howdy was it worth getting my rib-cage smashed biggrin

p.s. The Pixies (as most of you know) were a HUGE influence on Kurt... but it's not about them, it's about The Melvins. Maybe this wasn't the best title for a thread, but it's not about who influenced Nirvana. Let's not get our knickers in a twist, m'kay? wink

I'm surprised the thread went as long as it did before this was mentioned.

All of you are wrong.

Mudhoney? Uhm, Jesus Lizard were a big influence on them, as were Bikini Kill on Kurt... uhm... Flipper, TAD, Happy FLowers, ?? Harry Pussy, Wipers...

You named a bunch of other bands that were also heavily influenced by the Melvins. What point are getting at, exactly? The Melvins had a huge, undeniable influence on Kurt Cobain when he was young - much bigger than any of the bands you just listed. If you listed The Sex Pistols, you might have a point.

Needless to say, the Melvins are still making good music, while most of the others are not.

Flipper released their only true album three years before the date the Melvins claim is the time they first formed.

Will you two give it a rest?!
I have no idea about any of the comments you are making toward each other. Sorry - I guess I haven't been keeping current on your rivalry. At any rate, a Melvins thread is not the place for your pissing match.
Unless, of course, you guys are really friends and you're just busting each other's balls. In which case, um...carry on!

The thing is, i dont care! If Grandpa Munster was the kin to Nirvana I could care less.

I was just listing some influence, not trying to win double jeopardy...
Idgit just feels the need to act like a big man.

I listed the Wipers, to much discord... and The Sonics, I think the Sonics are any loud bands influence!

As stated previously, I had originally asked you to clarify what you were trying to say - if you're just stating general "influences" (which is off-topic), I don't really have a problem with that. You seem to be intentionally ignoring this point - showing to me once again that you're less interested in meaningful conversation than just showing up and proclaiming your position on things - usually contrarian and troll-like - then running away screaming "leave me alone" when challenged.

Well, I mean, when I think of Grandfather of Punk, I think Iggy Pop and MC5 and The Monks, but who knows... it's just my opinion. There is a definite direct connection to Nirvana & the Melvins (they did a show last night here, and I forgot to go.... ).

No, I'm quite interested in meaningful conversation, but I thought it was vauge, and a number of other people listed other bands as well. It's no problem, biggest influence, Melvins? maybe... who is to say... I think that Nirvana Bleach Era sounds a hell of a lot like Scratch Acid...

I can support my statements, but I guess I didn't fit the mold of the thread topic, I see things broader than The Melvins, who are still rocking. It doesn't matter, just a misunderstanding, and water under the bridge.
