Walking out on a shitty record deal takes a lot of balls depending on what is specified in the deal. Artists production has been held up for years in court because of legal issues. The maneuver that always entertains me, is when bands try to intentionally get dropped or find clever but annoying loopholes to get out of contracts.

Not quite on topic, but I was reminded of this interesting article.

Hard to say without knowing what their deal was like. If they fulfilled their committment to the label the downside of leaving would be minimal.

my fave was when wilco was dropped by warners after they gave them "yankee hotel foxtrot," and then sold it back to them for 3X the money.
