Exactly, great point, there are absolutely bands that still rock...but they are few and far between.

EL SUICIDO LOCO

I can't even begin to tell you how much I agree with you. Most of the bands I grew up on who were my biggest heroes in the 70's and 80's that didn't have the self-respect and common decency to call it a day when they started to suck (ie. most of 'em) are the boon of my existence today. I won't list bands by name, but many of the bands listed in my profile would qualify. I still list them as favorites though because I ignore their later garbage and regard it as a non-entity. They made such a HUGE impact on me at one point in my life and the old records still thrill. Although NOFX ain't my cup o' tea, I don't diss 'em because every generation has it's heroes. Where I get frustrated is when people don't acknowlege that if it weren't for the first wave of Punk and Hardcore bands kicking down the doors, none of the newer bands would have been able to have something to go on to formulate their own thing. Most of my favorite bands were initially reacting against the dinosaur rock of their day, which BELIEEEEEEEVE me, was as Jurassic as it gets! Unfortunately, most of them became exactly what they set about to destroy, with the rare exception of a small few.

Bottom Line: Rock'N Roll is just another term for recycling. That's how it works.

Very, very, very well put. This 35 year old dickbag knows his stuff!

I dont think this could be more appropriate.....

"Dinosaurs Will Die" -NOFX

Kick back watch it crumble
See the drowning, watch the fall
I feel just terrible about it
That's sarcasm, let it burn

I'm gonna make a toast when it falls apart
I'm gonna raise my glass above my heart
Then someone shouts "That's what they get!"

For all the years of hit and run
For all the piss broke bands on VH1
Where did all, their money go?
Don't we all know

Parasitic music industry
As it destroys itself
We'll show them how it's supposed to be

Music written from devotion
Not ambition, not for fame
Zero people are exploited
There are no tricks, up our sleeve

Gonna fight against the mass appeal
We're gonna kill the 7 record deal
Make records that have more than one good song
The dinosaurs will slowly die
And I do believe no one will cry
I'm just fucking glad I'm gonna be
There to watch the fall

Prehistoric music industry
Three feet in la brea tar
Extinction never felt so good

If you think anyone would feel badly
You are sadly, mistaken
The time has come for evolution
Fuck collusion, kill the five

Whatever happened to the handshake?
Whatever happened to deals no-one would break?
What happened to integrity?
It's still there it always was
For playing music just because
A million reason why
All dinosaurs will die
All dinosaurs will die
All dinosaurs will die

don't do that...I think that's one of those things nobody should touch.

that would be kind of like a band covering "Bohemian Rhapsody". You'd think it would be a good idea...but nonononoono....it's one of those things that only works with the original. Seriously.

the decline may be my favorite piece of music ever writte

It wont happen, but it is a great song to play. The opening bass line is just just fantastic to play over and over.

True NOFX story. We're playing this gig with them back in oh, I believe it was 1986. It's us, NOFX (on some flyers as No Effects, which really pissed them off), Subculture and Doggy Style (headlining, pop punk and rather naked). Probably another band I've since forgotten.

As it's 1986, there's really noplace in town for punk gigs to happen. The clubs that would bring in acts from NYC (or after they hit NYC) back in the '79-'81 era had either gone comedy club or stopped booking punk bands once the major labels stoped signing 'em. So we're playing at a gay/drag club. The name and outside of the club are innocuous enough that you could have your parents drop you off at the gig and not get so much as a second look from Mom. Head inside and there's a tranny bartender, and posters all over for their manly men's dancing troupe (on the nights when the queens weren't performing, I guess).

So the singer from NOFX (I don't remember him being fat, could it have been Dave Allen? or maybe someone else from the band, too long ago, and too obscure a band at the time) pulls me aside. He tells me he needs to know where a bathroom is. I point to the men's room. He shakes his head no. I rethink and point out the "ladies and nervous straight guy's room" to him (bathroom just big enough for shitter and sink, when you want some privacy).

He wants to know where SOMEPLACE ELSE with a bathroom is. Because he's concerned he'll "catch AIDS off the toilet seat." Even back then, I was dumbfounded. Instead of correcting his apparent ignorance I shrug my shoulders and chuckle to myself the rest of the night, sharing his amusing fate with the occasional friend.
