favorite female artists

well Cat Power and Mirah were mentioned already (2 of my favorites), but I saw ELECTROLANE last night and was completely impressed for the second time now.

There's lots of chicks in bands I dig, but I'm just gonna mention the mostly solo chicks.

Juliana Hatfield (haven't followed her lately though)
Bif Naked (though she's been going downhill)

And I may be mistaken but I don't believe I saw TORI AMOS on this list! Shame on you all!

Oh yes, Lil' Kim pushes my buttons in all the right places.

Ha, I saw them at my first concert when I was in 8th grade... They opened for Weezer (ahh, the Blue Album days) and No Doubt ('member when she was part of a band?).

They had an interesting song about a spork.

Patti Smith can never be mentioned too many times.

Two that have not been mentioned as of yet:

Gillian Welch, who is both a brilliant guitar player and songwriter. She plays the kind of bluegrass/country/blues music that makes me want to own a pair of cowboy boots.

Bic Runga, from New Zealand, though recently relocated to the UK. She writes the most heartbreakingly beautiful songs, and sings them with such a clarity and innocence that it's nearly brought me to tears on more than one occasion. This is what pop music should be like.
