I'm interested in knowing more about what artists you think are the best female performers. Have at it. I enjoy Ani Difranco, Bjork and PJ Harvey..among others...What do you think? (I also enjoy Portishead a lot too)

I'm not trying to say anything by this... I hope you know that..I am just trying to get people's opinions...that's all. I find it hard to find female artists out there that I actually enjoy that haven't been created by the music industry completely so i'm just getting opinions. ya know? I really tried not to post that, but it's just a slight pet peeve of mine and my neurosis got the better of me. I understand wanting to make a distinction between the average plastic mold fresh "Diva" and legitamate female artists. Unfortunately they're more difficult to track down then the prior. Some of my favorites currently are:
