Dexy's Midnight Runners "Come On Eileen"

wha?

i no way do the lyrics to Come On Eileen suggest any sort of child and/or sexual abuse. he's just getting horny over her dress. and they're both young.

Poor old Johnny Ray
Sounded sad upon the radio
He moved a million hearts in mono
Our mothers cried and sang along and who'd blame them
Now you're grown, so grown, now I must say more than ever
Go toora loora toora loo rye aye
And we can sing just like our fathers

Come on Eileen, well I swear (what he means)
At this moment, you mean everything
With you in that dress my thoughts I confess
Verge on dirty
Ah come on Eileen

These people round here wear beaten down eyes
Sunk in smoke dried faces
They're so resigned to what their fate is
But not us, no not us
We are far too young and clever
Eileen I'll sing this tune forever

Come on Eileen well I swear (what he means)
Ah come on, let's take off everything
That pretty red dress Eileen (tell him yes)
Ah come on Eileen

Sex Type Thing by Stone Temple Pilots, or at least that was always the impression it gave me.

The song on Tommy is "Fiddle About" I think & is directly about child molestation....Also I'm pretty sure the Mentors had a few songs on the subject.

Sex Type Thing was about rape (if I remember an interview ages ago when it came out, date rape in particular) but there's nothing about it specific to minors.

I think a song has to have a bit more than the words "Baby" or "Little Girl" to really have a connection to abuse of children. There's a strange common patronizing way of men speaking of and to grown women as though they were minors.

I can't believe it took this long for somebody to mention "The Police"

.... and just because somebody has to bring it up... anyone listened to any R. Kelly lately?

I remembered this song right away when I saw this thread, always used to creep me out.

Edge Of The World - faith no more<p>

Come here, my love
I'll tell you a secret
Come closer, now
I want you to believe it
I'll tell you all the things
You want to hear
Don't worry, baby
There's nothing to fear
Hey, little girl
Would you like some candy?
Look into my eyes
I've seen it all
Hand in hand
Together we fall
We'll sing and dance
And we'll find romance
And we'll stroll to the edge of the world
Come sit right down
Lay your head on my shoulder
It's not the point
That I'm forty years older
You can trust me
I'm no criminal
But I'd kill my mother
To be with you
We'll sing and dance
And we'll find romance
And we'll stroll to the edge of the world
Give me a smile
Let me see those pearlies
I'll do anything
For the little girlies...

It's weird, because when I was 17 or 18 (yuck, I know), I was dating a musician in his 30's named Ian, and he wrote a love/lust song about a 10-year old Irish girl named Eileen. Just gross.

I do think that Robert Smith mentions that this song is about a childhood story his uncle used to tell him to keep him in bed. Can anyone confirm this?

Perhaps....

Seventeen by Winger

I saw sparks fly, from the corner of my eye
And when I turned, it was love at first sight
I said please excuse me, I didn't catch your name
Oh it'd be a shame not to see you again

And just when I thought she was comin' to my door
She whispered sweet and brought me to the floor, she said

I'm only seventeen, but I'll show you love like you've never seen
She's only seventeen, daddy says she's too young, but she's old enough for me

Come to my place, we can talk it over, oh everything going down in your head
She said take it easy, I need some time, time to work it out, to make you mine

And just when I thought she was comin' to my door
She whispered sweet and brought me to the floor, she said

I'm only seventeen, you ain't seen love, ain't seen nothing like me
She's only seventeen, seventeen

(Solo)

Such a bad girl, loves to work me overtime
Feels good (ha), dancin' close to the borderline
She's a magic mountain, she's a leather glove
Oh she's my soul, it must be love

She's only seventeen, still she gives me love, like I've never seen
She's only seventeen, daddy says she's too young, but she's old enough for me
She's everything I need, daddy says she's too young
But she's old enough, old enough for me

"Jonestown Tea" by OTEP

Jonestown Tea
And it sounds like...armageddon
Sounds like...armageddon
Sounds like...cum and drink with me....
Cum and drink with me
And I remember him fucking me,
And I remember liking it,
I didn't know any better...
And I remember the smell, and the pain, and the shame...
And I remember being afraid and thinking everyday,
Every single day.. that it was my fault...
Oh, but what happened to that little girl?
Who used to dream of one day ruling the world,
Who used to draw pretty pictures in my room---beneath the moon
Destroying to create
Softly praying to God
What do I do now?
What do I do now?
As I secretely masturbate...
But then I'd hear his hooves coming down the floor
With a Bible in his hand...
Softly opening my door and he'd say...
DAUGHTER! The day of your attonement is due!
Well there's 3 million sinners out there...
and that includes you!
No daddy, don't... no daddy, don't...
LEAVE ME ALONE! LEAVE ME ALONE! LEAVE ME ALONE!
NO, I DON'T WANT TO BE FREE! NO, I DON'T WANT TO BE FREE!
SO TAKE YOUR DICK OUT OF ME!
PLEASE TAKE YOUR DICK OUT OF ME! PLEASE TAKE YOUR DICK OUT OF ME! PLEASE TAKE
YOUR DICK OUT OF ME!
I'm bleeding, it's not fair...
You see, there's this little place I like to go...
I like to run and hide--deep inside,
Where all the nightmares are real, and all the monsters come alive,
Oh, but the things I've seen in soft, soft visions and terrifying prophecies,
Like serpents on the take and gods coming in all sizes and shapes
Nothing seems fulfilling anymore..
Well your temples are swollen in deceit and the body of your missionary,
He's rotting... rotting in defeat mama?
MAMA!
Are the aliens coming to take us away? (mama?)
Is armageddon gonna happen again today?
LOOK WHAT HE DID TO ME! WHY DID YOU DO IT TO ME?!
HOW COULD YOU DO IT TO ME! WHY DID YOU DO IT TO ME?!
I will not cry... I will not cry...
I--PREFER--TO--DIE! than live--this life--of LIES!
KILL WHAT YOU CAN ---- CHALLENGE EVERYTHING
Vengeance is mine...
Hey, I'm sorry baby...
please come back inside...we can laugh a little... and live and die,
no wait. see, eye got this hot pot of jonestown tea
And it's been brewing for you and me,
Oh, it only takes one sip,
Come one baby,
Surrender your lips,
I can take you someplace nice...
I can take you...someplace NICE!
Breed my disease, be my disease...
Breed my disease, be my disease...
and vengeance will be mine
It's closer than u think...
So I entered his room at 32 past noon
With my little ritual knife...
I cut out his tounge
Liberated his wife
She loved me for it other world woman,
Well, thats what she called me (Destroyer),
the one who sets you free, (cum and drink with me)
We all die like cartoons, surrender your children,
kids who like to kill, lies...

Ani DiFranco - Letter to a John (from Out of Range)

---------------
I was eleven years old
he was as old as my dad
and he took something from me
I didn't even know that I had
so don't tell me about decency
don't tell me about pride
just give me something for my trouble
'cause this time, it's not a free ride
