Its really difficult if your not in the west coast canada area. We've got a couple in winnipeg but they are far inbetween. i'm trying to get something going these days, there isnt enough skanking about. If you like that style though, check out Lionize. They are opening for Clutch in 2013 on tour, i've seen them a couple times. its like clutch meets rocksteady/reggae
I see you found it already, but in case anyone else sees this thread and isn't as clever, the ska fans around here are in the Ska is Dead group.
I don't listen to much ska myself these days, but I used to go to a lot of ska shows in OC in the early 90s. I used to listen to The Ska Parade when it was on KUCI. Good times.
the ska is dead group is really dead... but ska use to be one of my fav music ever, i cant wait for th new streetlight manifesto in january... i also listen a lot to me mom and morgentaler, voodoo glow skulls, less than jake, op ivy, elwood and planet smashers

love streetlight, i actually met those guys on a few occasions. being born at the tail end of the 3rd wave really has its dissadvantages hahaha. also, voodoo glow skulls melt my brain, sooo good.

i think the whole canada have a good ska scene, not only the west coast, the latest all-skanadian comp was really good, lots of good bands, Victoria and Montreal have their ska fest and stomp records are doing a good job, its just less punk these days but its awesome music
West Coast/Bay Area had a good scene when I lived there long ago. There was a two hour ska only show on KFJC also that was pretty good. It's damped down quite a bit to the point where most of the bands I know are pretty old... Skatellites, The Specials, Madness, The Selector to name a few from my vinyl collection.
I used to see this band called Dr Octopus a lot in Brisbane, but since they've disbanded, I haven't really found another ska band in my local area. I guess as far as ska is concerned, I like punk bands with ska tendencies, like Less Than Jake and NOFX (their ska-ish songs are pretty cool). Otherwise, I'm a bit of a ska poser.

I agree there are great ones in Canada. It's just that my city in particular doesn't have a great ska scene. It used to be epic. I plan on moving anyway so no big deal haha
I'm here, but there hasn't been a legit ska band around the OC in a while. Suburban Legends are probably the only local band I know of. I hear that the Supertones reunited but haven't seen them touring at all. The Skeletones used to be pretty good, don't know what happened to them. And of course, the most popular ska band ever, No Doubt, became a rock band, and now with their new album, they sound like hardcore pop or something.

Yeah man no doubt really went down hill. Best place to catch ska is Victoria ska fest. Though I did just see a streetlight manifesto show that was insane. They have a new album coming out.

Ska is the happiest music ever. And how could you argue with the principle of UNITY with the use of BRASS INSTRUMENTS? If you hate ska, I probably hate you... Just a lil...
