That new Cardigans album melts me every time. I've never understood why they don't catch on.

maybe because pop music has a peremption date and The Cardigans (excellent pop band imho) is out the public eye for that exact reason ?

Divisions of Laura Lee's Black City, in my opinion. I thought that was a great album.

Right, because opinion is absolute.

whatever

My personal choice would be Tanya Donelly's Beautysleep It's just too bad that she doesn't have a market for her music.

I think that more than a few Nordic rock bands have figured out that cracking the american market, playing the game all for the promise of a few Kroner (crowns in english) isn't worth it. They had their hit, they are still making music and popular in Sweden and europe, they get to make the albums they want and will be able to live their lives with out all that rockstar crap.

It makes me sad but that seems to be the truth, and the ones that suffer are the fans in the states who miss out on all their stuff. On the other hand in this day and age of the net, it's much easier to get info and imports than it was.

Also the mass market has a short memory, I bet a lot of folks don't even recall them... along with Better than Ezra, The Crash Test Dummies, and a host of others that were all over the place just a few years ago.

On the other hand, if the new Hives record sells, we might just see the industry start pimping Nordic rock once again.

and to who ever said they suck, can you tell me why you think they suck?

What a pleasanty surprising album choice by the thread starter! Blackguarding you are my hero! wink

Whoever said that the Cardigans suck has likely only heard Lovefool.. 8 years ago. While the band manages to sound almost completely different on each album. Yes, Gran Turismo was awesome but last year's album.. "Long Gone Before Midnight" is a work of GOD! Linz if you haven't heard it, GO BUY IT RIGHT NOW!

Nina Persson has become an AMAZING songwriter. She used to never write any of the lyrics but slowly increased with each album. Now on this one she writes them all. And you can really understand and feel where her heart has taken her over the 5 years between records.. as this record is filled with tons of raw emotion.

For me, Long Gone Before Midnight was hands down the best record last year and one of my favorite records ever.. as I posted in the best rock albums thread recently. Its a fucking masterpiece.

"And if you want me, I'm you're country.. And if you win me, I'm forever.."

I'd agree with that album pick!

And Corgan did appear on it, and he sang on Turn My Way.

Hands down the most underrated, not talked about album of 2003. I've owned it for about six months and it is still blowing my mind.

Thrice -- Artist in the Ambulance

I know.. this album was fairly popular among the emo crowd and you can't go to a show nowadays without seeing a Thrice shirt. However, I still think it didn't get the critical acclaim it deserved. They're not just another whining emo band... they're are an incredibly talented group of musicians with a keen understanding of power and subtlety, and the balance required to make great music. Too many magazines lump Thrice's album in with those from bands like Thursday and Taking Back Sunday, despite the fact that Thrice's album is far superior.
