I'm just curious, since my hometown (as in where I actually grew up) spawned the likes of Mudvayne puke what bands to be proud or ashamed of come from where you call home?

The Upbeat - a local ska band, not a big name band. Pretty good, though.

The lead singer of the 80s metal band Cinderella (Tom Keifer) went to high school with my sister in the Philadelphia suburb in which I grew up. They took the same bus to school every morning.

Where I was born? No idea.

Where I grew up? This awful hardcore band called The Nightmare Scenario, and a half decent Juliana Theory-ish band called Indiana. And a lot of christian funk bands. Go figure. Also a kinda cool jam band called Buka Mongra and the Outhouse Funk.

Where I live now? Tons of great local bands, some shitty local bands, and some mediochre local bands, and Boy Sets Fire.

The guitarist/vocalist for Nada Surf hangs out here a lot because his dad lives down the street.

He came into a Hot Topic where I worked as a holiday employee in 1999-ish. He looks exactly the same as he did in their heyday.

And Baltimore? KIX!!!!

I grew up in the 'burbs of DC, so my list could go on forever.

i've also spent half my life in the boise area, home to built to spill. i miss boise, random doug sightings (what a nice guy he is) and free built to spill shows in the park...there's always been lots of fun bands in boise-too many to mention here...

currently i'm living in ohio, home to: DEVO!, trent reznor, chrissie hynde, among others...

Well, I was born in New Orleans, so let's talk Jazz and Blues. Lived in Houston for like 13 years, and never really heard that much great come out of there.

San Antonio has some great acts: Forty Second Scandal's lead singer went to my university...um... Someone once told me that the Butthole Surfers went here, too, and the lyric

"They were drinking from a fountain
That was pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain"

Was written about an incident in the fountain on campus.

I don't really buy it.

Outkast
A Small Victory
Ludacris
Norma jean
Copeland

And then you've got your whole Athens REM/B-52s scene, and your whole Widespread Panic thing, but eh. For a while the Butthole Surfers lived near Athens (in Winterville) and stalked REM (or so I hear).

Also there's the Allman Brothers, James Brown, Ray Charles, and a bunch more that I can't think of right now from Georgia.

Fuck no: frown
Doobie Brothers
Smashmouth
Kingpins (Star Search winners)

Various members of the Grateful Dead, Santana, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, etc. have lived in San Jose at one time or another. Supposedly, Alexander 'Skip' Spence was born here. Chuck Berry used to claim he was born here, because he thought it sounded 'exotic.' confused

To all you Brooklyn jerks, with your fancy 'the' bands, come on, don't rub our noses in it.

It doesn't bother me, because I'm from Grand Rapids, home to the greatest band of all times. The Verve Pipe.
