First, the OPs list doesn't contain anything close to the most essential punk albums.
Second, the first album in the thread that might be canonical is "Another Music In a Different Kitchen", not Direction.

Last, no Ramones? Not a list.

My personal Most Essential (as opposed to "best" or "favorite"):
PUNK:
Ramones: S/T
Buzzcocks: Singles Going Steady
Clash: S/T (Either Version)
Germs: MIA: Complete Anthology
Sex Pistols: Never Mind the Bullocks

POST PUNK:
Gang of Four: Entertainment!
Wire: Pink Flag
Slits: Cut
Fugazi: 13 Songs
The Fall: A-Sides

HARDCORE:
Bad Brains: S/T
Faith/Void: Split
Minor Threat: Discography
Cro Mags: Age of Quarrel
Black Flag: Damaged

If you have these albums, you probably have a good music collection. If you're missing more than a few, you don't.

Forgive my beer buzz but you get the point. Plus, it is all a matter of personal taste because I can say Black Flag does not come close to Misfits. wink

Your collection is good but not essential by any means.

There is also:

The Germs - MIA
The Exploited - Troops of Tomorrow
7 Seconds - Walk Together, Rock Together
Crass - The Feeding of 5000

Great music everyone and who cares if the 'list' is complete? It is all good music! I am just happy to see that these bands are not lost over the years. smile

Pointblank is correct and Fat Wreck Chords bands are almost all garbage. I will add to his list.

The Damned: Damned Damned Damned

Iggy & the Stooges: Raw Power

Adverts: Crossing the Red Sea With the Adverts

X: Wild Gift

Suicide: Suicide

So, "Dookie" shouldn't be on the list of must haves? tongue

PointBlank said:

Amen.

Since we're just listing favorites and not "must haves", I'll toss a few of my favorites out there:
Circle Jerks - VI
Suicidal Tendencies - S/T
Ramones - S/T (although this is a MUST HAVE for anyone calling themselves a punk fan)
