I don't need to hear about people disliking it since it is quite a "marmite" genre (love it or hate it)
nor do we need the youtube comment style "It's as filthy as ...(insert metaphor here)"

I'm just interested to see

a) how many people have heard of it;
b) of those people - what do they think it is, i.e. examples you think fit the genre.

It appears to have snuck over the pond to the US, yet some people in the UK even still think it's the name of a band.

I expect to see this topic disappear quickly down and out of sight shocked hehe

I do like dubstep. A little slow to dance to though.

Favorite artist is, ofcourse, Burial. I also like Flux Pavilion, Benga, Pinch, Distance, but I prefer the calmer and more experimental acts like (mentioned earlier) Burial, Kode9, Ikonika, Eskmo, and so on.

I also do like some of the mainstream crossover acts, like Rusko and Magnetic Man, and such.

I also think all the focus dubstep is getting now is quite alright, as it means I can get to listen to some alright tunes out, but the kids are unfortunately focusing too much on the filth and wobble. It get's old when all they do is play some incredibly distorted wobbly bass line ad infinitum, and insert a drop now and then. smile

Dubstep seems to be gaining quite a bit of popularity in the states.

I think some producers would take a strange pride in that smile

That is a nice tune, but that beat is not dubstep, more of an atmospheric offshoot of garage/2-step.

I don't know exactly what's defined as dubstep but this:

I don't know much about it, but I have most certainly heard of it, and I definitely knew it wasn't a band.

Dubstep has most certainly gained popularity in the US. The genre is surely not for everyone but there are some talented producers out there who have put out some great tunes and remixes. If you are a true fan of music then I think you must at least acknowledge the time and effort put into some of these electronic tracks.

I didn't appreciate electronic music until after I started to produce my own tracks.

You can stream some of my tracks via my SoundCloud page ...

I have a couple Dubstep tracks, some Drum & Bass tracks, and some other electronic tunes uploaded.

I see Dubstep/DnB only gaining more popularity in the US over time.

It is getting pretty popular. Big names like Rusko and Nero were actually in L.A. Halloween weekend along with a bunch of other artists

It's got a fanbase in Canada too. Actually, just as I was getting into drum 'n'bass, the crowd I partied with suddenly changed their preference to dubstep seemingly overnight.

I like some dubstep, im more into it being used as a sound and not so much as a genre or even a whole set of dub step. I think the womps can be utilized in many different styles of music when used in the right place. I live down here in alabama, and surprise surprise dubstep is fucking huge here. here is my homeboy grant willis aka white noise doin his womp thing, straight outa bama yall....

I must say, this album is some of the best dubstep I have ever heard. The song Kill Everybody is my absolute favorite. Definitely check it out!
